Poetry Contest

What it says on the tin. NOT a song writing/ song lyrics competition
I would love to read some poems about music from you lot.  You're so brilliant and inspire me every day.  I don't mind if you want to write about a band/ artist, a style of music, something technical about music/ instruments/ composition, or just about the way it makes you feel.  Surprise me.

Maximum 40 lines please.
No erotica - I'm sure it's an art form in itself, but having never written any and only read a little, I just know it isn't for me.
One poem per entrant for now.
I'm new, so judging written submissions is more than enough for now... I don't know all about the art and spoken word stuff.  However, you might like to use your poem to create something multimedia after the competition?
Will 2 weeks do?

Have fun!

THE M YOU SIC

I admire wordplay but admonish gun play
It's bigger than HipHop so watch what you say
Today, lines of reality & fallacy are irreparably blurred
And my perception of the melodic weapon is disturbed

Over a billion served under its big, golden arches
The M u sic on the airwaves is landing fatal punches
No amount of crunches can prepare the GOD body
To handle blows that flow outta barrels of shotties

Bodies are dropping left and right, day and night
Yet, the steel is still glamorized under bright lights
We're losing the fight, subliminally hypnotized
Lyrically, I see, it needs to be reanalyzed

I recognize the carnage that's left in the aftermath
I'm deducing the science while computing the math
The geometric path we're on needs calibration
Rather than additions of genocidal celebration

Fruit picking from plectrums

I've been lost
In a Humbuckers
field, picking
plump fruit from
plectrums, to fill stomp boxes
full of ripe fancy.

My fingers
cut deep on thin strings,
and I bend
with gravel
as I work away fretless,
always keeping time.

Weighed down by
a solid body,
sustained by
the richness
of a pentatonic crop,
heavy with rocks.

ROBERT JOHNSON

they said satan
 taught him
how to stroke that old guitar
so she'd
purr
and coo
and whimper
and wail
in the bliss
of his long, dark fingers' caress,
her strings bent hard
and pressed against him,
her moans and laughter
rising from a deep black hole
and set free
to haunt the lonely liquored night
even now
through the tinny fuzz
and crackle of an antique recording

tricks
the devil taught
not long before
he called the loan

Hey Billie Jean, Who is the father?

Say it in black and white
what’s wrong, what’s right?

Yes or no, did you or not?
The truth, Will you or won’t?

But they will talk and talk and talk
Who are they to judge?
All is just a smudge

They don’t care
Who you are, who you were

You were caught in a storm
Took you high above the clouds

They painted you in white
They dressed you in tights

Just two steps to the finishing line
You dropped a bomb in their shrine

They blew up your castle
You built on their grounds

I refuse to believe
The facts that I hear

It won’t speak again
They won’t hear it
And we will forget

The truth…

(A/N | I was not a big fan him as a person because of all the craziness, I liked and listened to his songs. but a friend showed me this link [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx0Un9K5dKQ ] that really changed my view  and respect towards him)

SYMPHONY'S NIGHT VOICES

If you listen carefully

You can hear Mother Nature descant

It's a sound so naturally

"Alluring and Puissant."

Every living thing has a vocal of its own

A bird tweets "yet" hear the running streams

A place they call home

Around Trees that are Queens...

Winds and rain invite others to attend

Enjoying the event

In a moment all is regarded as a friend

After it calms an orchestra is sent

Now ready to begin...

Crickets play their violin

The beauty in the sound

But then toads croak in

"Wow just look around!"

Wolves sneak upon to hear their howls

as the moon shines bright

Present now are mesmerizing white owls

"Just how Gala is this Night?"

Spiders don't stay behind

as they weave their webs

To rhythm as the raindrops skim its lines

Echoes that reach even mountainscapes

Suddenly all is silent at the same term

And in seconds, drums are then heard

"Why is it a woodpecker?"

"Rocking like a real drummer?"

Well rock on redhead fella

Maybe you'll be talented to play the mbira

"EVERYONE LOOK ARRIBA!"

This is so fascinating and entertaining

The chanting of wildlife

There's nothing that needs explaining

Other than to know it's all perfect and nice

If you listen prudently to its true hidden heart

You'll hear the sound of a sacred gold harp

The one gift that gives it "God's Hand Art".

"Blessing it all right from Genesis start."

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to this.  I'm a teacher and September is an insanely busy month.  Thank you for every single submission... I loved ALL of them and will give you all some lovely comments when I have more time.
