Its absolutely discernable from the threads and competitions nobody really cares.thats because there is no boundaries or cages or rules here which impede anyone's rights
that said, I dont think the thread or a competition would be a bad thing. i dont really see it taking off. as evidenced in any comps or discussions in the 10 years I've been here

It is certainly true that libraries in western countries mostly got old white dudes, but the history is much much richer. Could make a fair argument that the largest body of written poetry is in China. Agree people need a voice though...own some very good Australian indigenous poetry, and helped me understand the Australia they were experiencing when I was there)

i know about poetry’s history being much richer than the west’s portrayal.
fact is, fax is, this site typifies that western power imbalance whether we like to admit it or not. founded by the English, overtaken by Americans, and largely ignorant of what that means and the responsibility we have to ensure balance.
i love it here but I’ve seen too many examples of racism and ignorance and have personally spoken to black poets who are loath to get involved because the space is too white. that’s not their problem, it’s ours.

I don't see it that way. I see it that site was set up by a poet ( if you listen to webmiss on the podcast you might hear a tinge of an accent) and open for for anyone of any ethnicity to join and take part.
there is no systematic racism here, I do agree there is some casual racism at times from people of different backgrounds and ethnicity.
I get messages all the time from members. for all kinds of reasons, never because a person felt their ethnicity was causing them trouble or strife because cunts. I've been in a position to help for some years now
I speak to members of ethnicity outside this site and I can say hand on heart there has never been a problem
there are 3 ethnic mods out of 5. so I really dont see where we have a problem. that said I'm happy to be shown

One of my closest friends (brother) tried to talk me into writing a piece for your comp, but I sort of sat in the same camp with Tallen. Plus, even as an adult I don't really identify with any of my ethnicity, which has been a sore spot and a struggle for me all of my life. It's difficult to feel you have no real group, traditions, or culture.
I think the idea you're proposing is really fantastic. I can't see it as being anything other than positive :)
