Some Sad News: David_Macleod

poet Anonymous

I’m really sorry to have to bring this news to you.

David_Macleod has passed away. He died on the 13th January and his funeral was yesterday. It was very sudden and was to do with a long standing condition with his heart.

I’ve just done talking to a close friend of his on the phone who has been trying to find me in amongst David’s hectic paperwork.

David’s wish was for me to hold on to his poetry for him.

My Husband and I met David in real life many times and he was one of a kind. He had a huge heart, an infectious sense of humour and enough banter to floor the best of anyone. He could also eat any Chinese buffet out of business, and we did on many occasions.

He was a friend, a true Scotsman, and an absolute teddy bear. I will miss him very, very much.

Please share your memories and condolences below.

Thank you.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing away of my dear friend David.
To his Son, and family, I  offer my heartfelt wishes for a perfect healing, may the spirit of joy he carried in his heart touch you, and lift you from sorrow.

David has a special  place in the corner of my heart, I will always remember him  and forever be blessed by his kind words and gentle spirit.
I will cherish the moments we had whether serious or playful I could always count on him to make me smile.

David,
I wish I had been able to  visit you as we had planned
i want you to know I will find you in your next life and together we will run through fields of Larkspur then bathe in the cool waters of peace
Love you always and forever
Valeriya

Clamshells, or Screening Room Z: Ode to Junk

for David Macleod, who gave me the idea

“... about two dozen movies a year feature a mad killer going berserk ... Some have a little more plot, some have a little less. It doesn't matter.” - Roger Ebert

The shelves of my ideal Blockbuster store
are colourful with clamshells painted to
entice the buyer, unwary and gore
loving, hoping to get his fill of grue.

What nuclear holocaust
of taste
and talent
and simple cohesion
is our hero to find
in those haunted clamshells!

Those cases holding black boxes
of whatever could be restored
using a half-assembled script
and full-baked actresses.

Actors the likes of which you’ll see
in Hollywood one day,
but more likely
gone gay-for-pay
or just nowhere at all.

Seeing this motley band
trying to cobble stories out of mulch,
fantastic lands or grim slashers,
they’ll take your tropes and try, o try,
o really truly try,
to recreate them with a budget of
sixpence and string.

Horror, fantasy, sci-fi,
they’ll try and fail at ‘em all,
let loose upon
the garbage heap of old
and overdone ideas,
and ones that just should not have seen
the unforgiving light of day.

Which isn’t even mentioning
the pseudo-Freudian horrors,
the plain moronic notions of
sex and sexuality. Sanity
so far behind the plot
I can’t even be offended.

My heavenly Blockbuster
abreast a passing cloud
will guide you through the wreckage of
mankind’s creative urge.

This is terrible news. I didn't know him for long, but we first spoke on one of the podcast Zoom calls and he was a lovely guy. We bonded a little over our taste in terrible horror B-movies, and I wrote this poem for him:

RIP, Mr MacLeod.

In my early years here  on this site , I loved David...

Later , I disagreed with him , yet still respected him ,as best I could...

His playfulness in his poetry , his appreciation of those
who wrote playful and loving poetry , let alone bold
and powerful poetry , was long apparent , and  I saw
his dedication to his belief in other poets on this site...

:))))))))

In recent times , I did not always , mostly did not , agree
with him , on this site...we had our differences...yet , I
am truly sorry to hear he has passed...

He was , and is , a good soul , and I , as one who "knew"
him , wish him well , on the journey to the otherside...

May his soul , find the poetic playfulness , well deserved ,
and may he be embraced by words of love and light...

:)))))))))))

Though we in later times did not always agree , my friend...Blessings your way !

I’ve just spoken to his Son who told me a few details about his final moments which was hard to hear but also comforting.

David, the man with no legs, had “I’m still standing” by Elton John as the curtains closed around the coffin. Which is everything you need to know about David Macleod. Wry to the fucking end.

Imma leave this here. Play loud:

Thoughts are with those he loved & who loved him. True Scottish firestarter. They're built differently North of Hadrian's Wall - and the World is a more colourful place for it. RIP Sir.

Angel

He had the face of an angel
he smiled and winked his eyes
raised his eyebrows, gave a sigh
He had the face of an angel

A glowing light shone round his face
no darkness near him, not a trace
He had the face of an angel

He had a look of wisdom behind his eyes
no need for singing lullabyes
He had the face of an angel

He looked at me, my heart swelled inside
A special bond which couldn't be denied
He had the face of an angel

I felt his heartbeat next to mine
I felt his breath, I saw him shine
He had the face of an angel

I held him tight, he didn't cry
Despite he knew this was goodbye
He had the face of an angel

I held his head, he breathed his last
one hour of life, his life now past
He had the face of an angel

Lifeless he slept, as I cuddled and cried
though life had gone and breath expired
He still had the face of an angel

Still, he wouldn't no hate or fear or rejection
Reincarnated one last time on his way to perfection
He had the face of an angel

His eyes, his smile I'll never forget
his tear on my cheek was not one of regret
He had the face of an angel

I'll never forget, I know I never can
my son who would never have to be a man
But he had the face of an angel

I then looked up and saw her pain
her face all wet from the eyes that rain
She had the face of an angel

She smiled, winked her eyes
she raised her eyebrows, gave a sigh
She had the face of an angel

I knew her loss, I knew her pain
I knew I loved her just the same
She had the face of an angel

We sit in peaceful quite at night
and remember his face in that glowing light
Our Son, with the face of an angel

Save Me II

   Sung Beautifully by Missy :-))

SAVE ME

I've got the fear
It's even dark in the day time
And the voices that I hear
Tell me it's useless just to fight on
With every shed of tears
The strangle hold it tightens
And I've got the need
I'm alone in a crowded place
No thought how deep
Brings me to a state of grace
I need to feel
The desire to touch written on my face
Chorus:
Save me, oh save me
Catch me when I'm falling
Catch me when I'm falling
Save me, oh save me
Can't you hear me calling
Can't you hear me calling
You--r name

I've got the pain
It's of my own creation
And I looked in vain
For my own salvation
And this is the rain
I sweat in desperation
And I've got the rage
My anger knows no bounds
On every page
My hatred can be found
I should be caged
Or let loose with the hounds

Chorus:
Save me, oh save me
Catch me when I'm falling
Catch me when I'm falling
Save me, oh save me
Can't you hear me calling
Can't you hear me calling
You--r name
Woah, woah, woah
Calling you--r name

David would go mad if I didn’t post this. He’d be sitting there now going “aww, for the love of fucks sake” ☺️

He wrote this with his Daughter, and asked me if I’d record it for him after they lost touch. It was an honour to be trusted to sing it.
