That's the kind of news I like to read ... and is happening on a smaller scale all over the place, including here.

Ditto, Josh.

LVMH—the luxury conglomerate that owns brands such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Givenchy, and many more—announced today that it will begin using some of its facilities to produce its own hand sanitizer in response to the shortage in France caused by the coronavirus epidemic.
“These gels will be delivered free of charge to the [French] health authorities.”

We just had, at least, one confirmed case in our county yesterday. People have already been shopping like mad since last Wednesday/Thursday. I work at one of the grocery stores, and getting concerned with the constant flow of people; as well as not being sure how to respond to everything in general. I hope everyone here is being safe and mindful as possible.

Please stay the fuck home, people. Think of those healthcare workers who may not be able to go home to their families.

Sweeping restrictions take effect in coronavirus response as health officials warn US is at a tipping point

(CNN)The number of cities and states ordering people to distance themselves over the coronavirus pandemic is rising Tuesday as health officials tout a consistent message: Limit your interactions now or overwhelm the health systems meant to take care of you.

While the White House has suggested limiting gatherings to 10 people or less, state and local officials are giving orders for an altered American reality as coronavirus cases across the US reach over 4,490 -- a jump of more than 1,000 from Sunday -- with 87 deaths.

[ . . . ]

Public health officials say the US has reached a tipping point -- warning that if residents don't take the call to action seriously, the country may approach the situation in Italy, which went on total lockdown last week and where hospitals have been overwhelmed with more than 24,000 cases.

The faster the disease spreads, the faster physicians will get sick, leading to a difficult scenario, Dr. Carlos Del Rio, a professor at Atlanta's Emory University School of Medicine, told CNN Tuesday.

"I'm really worried about ... having the worst possible combination: too many patients; too (few) doctors, nurses ... to take care of them."

It's actually 94 deaths ( not being picky, but every death matters ).

The video of the healthcare workers is just heart wrenching.  Our strength and energy to you all.

In case you missed the post about Italy:

My heart bleeds for these doctors and nurses who have taken oaths to save lives, but are now forced to let them go. But what do you do? I've been in a triage situation before—you do the greatest good for the greatest number who are likely to survive.

Stay the fuck home, people.

I saw so many parents yesterday at the stores with their kids.
Did they not understand why their kids are home and schools are closed?????
They're not on vacation, they're home so that they stay protected and not be out there to get infected or spread the virus.  But some idiot parents were in there shopping in the afternoon in clothing section!  While the mom was looking at bras the kids had gotten a ball from the toy section throwing at each other to entertain themselves, meanwhile the poor workers worked to the bone to accommadate everyone's needs.

We had to dodge a visit from a sorely missed relative. Our own beloved songbird. But she was just in a local competition. Nobody here is even going clothes shopping.

I complete relate to your concerns and frustrations Sartoris, i work with the public too in somewhat similar capacity and i see their ugly side all the time.  Thankfully most of the stores have reduced their hours and majority of the malls are closing.  But sadly the ones which are open for any duration of the day are getting brunt of things.  People need to understand to be kind to these workers and do what they can to make sure they're doing their civic duty as well, by not lingering longer than they have to  in the stores and certainly stop dragging their kids with them.  Most of the workers are choosing to stay home so there are only handful of workers in the stores who are willing to work therefore we all need to remember that if they get sick or choose not to come to work in fear of the virus, who will be there to serve us?!
I'm so hoping they will implent some kind of rule for the stores to stop parents coming in if their children are with them!!

Fortunately I'm in the prepared section, so generally we haven't been hit as badly as other areas. Unfortunately we're already very understaffed as it was before this happened. (Over reliance on part-timers; each person doing double, triple the amount of work for one; and such things.)

But every day I see meat, bakery, grocery shelves being emptied. You hear people come in, audibly coughing, and wonder if they're carrying the virus. At least we're closed from midnight until 6 AM, but as you said, being open for any length of time only seems to prolong this situation.

My mother and I are growing concerned how prepared we're going to be if we're made to stay home (whatever those circumstances are. And they've only set up a local testing site yesterday, however I've heard they aren't going to test anybody without showing symptoms...

Many parents aren't worried because they've read that children are basically immune.  What they don't understand is that while they may be immune to symptoms, that doesn't mean they are immune to contracting the virus, and thus transmitting it to other, more susceptible members of society, like the elderly or immunocompromised.

I shiver to think of the germs on that ball!

Sartoris, I apologize for overlooking your post;  I was a bull in a china shop after watching that video from Italy.  Take care out there.

You too, Layla. And thank you for quoting him.
