The Letter A
(Listening to 808 State - Pacific State (Original Extended Version)
The Anvil of silence was wholeheartedly attending
to the Arch of Arlington, while the beach houses were
panting for your smile into the stark: naked hours of the night
in pursuit of spring side locality; April no longer with the sun
in Anarchy chasing us down to make an Amends with
who we use to be; Aglow: excitement now bending to some
advancement making good on its promise; mellowing
To Appease that forgetful solitude prepared to Avoid
all we’ve ever challenged like
the Apple in your eyes for moon.

Arlington in April
Arlington in April
The white crosses splay across the distance
Across a well tended carpet of green
Like swords planted as mockery to life
To appease ravenous Death.
The showers pause as if to make amends
Clouds as leaden as anvils, impatiently sigh
And the arch of Heaven erupts with thunder.
Anarchy above as torrents rage down
While below, black mushrooms sprout
A sea of umbrellas to avoid the harsh rain.
The apple-cheeked son with eyes aglow
Watches the flag-draped coffin descend
The light of vengeance burns behind
Tear stained eyes
And the cycle starts anew.
The white crosses splay across the distance
Across a well tended carpet of green
Like swords planted as mockery to life
To appease ravenous Death.
The showers pause as if to make amends

we avoid the looks
the arch cherry tree in March
near-by Arlington
anarchy aglow
pear tree to nowhere April
plane trip over lines
avail and anvil
our apple blossoms smear May
down in Wenatchee
appease the in-laws
June eats a plum pie by Lake
Coeur d’Alene
amends of the heart
makes the art of July green
over cherry trees

over cherry trees

From the Apple Seed
Like anvil clouds hanging over you
And the bright rainbow in its arch
I am homesick for Arlington, a place
I have never been. Like April showers
The rain is pouring and the anarchy
Is rising from the ashes. Amends are
Not easy to make, but we are aglow
And whole. I am not here to appease
Or please anyone else. I avoid chaos.
I am growing from the apple seed.

ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY
I went to Arlington National Cemetery one April when I was a lad, to make amends I suppose for all the gratitude for sacrifice I’d taught myself to avoid.
I went to Arlington National Cemetery one April when I was a lad, to appease the Gods of War who drop their dictums like an anvil from above.
I went to Arlington National Cemetery one April when I was a lad, to see the ghosts of my forefathers aglow, not knowing how to reconcile them with the anarchy of youth.
I went to Arlington National Cemetery one April when I was a lad, to arch my back and pick an apple from a gnarled and knotted tree that grew there. Its flavor was baffling.

I did not see the word arch in your poem. This regards the second entry of Abra Cadabra.

Michel Lotito: The Man Who Ate An Airplane And Everything Else
He was a Frenchman and certainly not from Arlington.
But in his lifetime he ate about nine tons of metal.
He never swallowed an anvil whole.
He had better table manners.
He had trouble digesting bananas and hard boiled eggs.
So he had to avoid these.
Certainly he had to stay away from the apple.
Had he lived in St. Louis he would have attacked the Arch.
But being in France he ate only a taste of the Eiffel Tower.
Be assured he set himself aglow after consuming six chandeliers.
The anarchy of his life came when he was attacked and brutally knifed,
Sadly, Mr. Lotito passed away in June of 2007 not in April of 2008.
To make amends It’s said that he died of “natural causes." It was surrender and a way to appease.

Great job so far, everyone ! I’m thinking that I’ll send this and the rest of the comps in this year long series, to public vote. That way , I can still choose who I think is the overall winner for each, and have input from others by way of the vote. It will keep it less biased and open to more opinions other than just mine, for the winner.

Old Spirits
I escaped the hustle and the bustle,
The daily rituals that felt like anarchy,
Away from the routines without purpose,
Looking for old spirits who held the key.
So I drove past old Arlington road,
Past the orchards and apple trees,
I stopped at the hidden secluded farm,
The old spirits I had come to appease.
I had gotten away from the city,
Avoiding the noise that doesn’t end,
And on that beautiful April morning,
I’d see the old spirits and make amends.
And as I walked to past the old arch,
I heard the anvil, hammer and the stone,
Suddenly my heart felt warm and all aglow,
I’d see the old spirits and finally rest at home.

A solders prayer
Submitted to MadameLavenders
"Through The Alphabet: Letter A" competition
Please give me forgiveness, for I can not make amends
Let me worship you in your glory, help me appease my guilt
aglow are the fiery battles of my life, extract me
And with the arched end of your anvil Lord
I pray that you shape me in your Holy image
Give me strength to avoid all sin, break our anarchy of faith
"Keep me as the apple of your eye
Hide me in the shadow of your wings "(psalm 17:8)
In April when discharged, bring me safely home to family
and not to rest in Arlington
