Poetry Contest

see below
Post poems that describe an activity or event that makes you feel the most alive.. the most human..

For me, this may be something as simple as dancing in the rain, or something as dark and serious as detoxing from heroin.. both made me feel alive.. be it in very different ways..

That being said there is a lot of room for interpretation here..

RULES:
new or old
ONE entry per user
short and precise is favored over long and drawn out
THIS WILL BE OPENED FOR A VOTE
No collaboration
Recordings are acceptable

I had the chance
To flirt with death
Face to air with my captor
For like the Headless Horseman
It reveals a spider silk glove of terror
And has no face.

My body

I wasn't enough for my own skin. Thoughts and words and feelings that lay beneath my flesh were shadows.

I lay dormant, like a spirit waiting for a fresh corpse to possess; a spirit who has known nothing more than the sheltered warm bodies it clings to for centuries until they turn to dust.

A wraith in the making, I hovered, afraid to touch my translucent feet to the ground, worried that any hearts I reach for would crumble in my grasp.

My body was meaningless to my spirit.

But now, on my knees for you with my lips wrapped around your cock I hear the blood rushing in my ears, I feel the warmth of your skin and I taste another meaning of life.

Your hands force me to move for you but my body does not crack and crumble. It glows as you bring weight into my weightless limbs. My near invisible hands take form as they touch your hair, your neck, your lips.

Galaxies burn bright from afar but get too close and they burn so purely they destroy everything that touches them.

But though I am made of a million stars I do not destroy you when you traverse the vastness that is me. Your hands are down my pants, your fingers rubbing circles into my clit and your lips are devouring mine with a ferocity I couldn't fathom had I not been experiencing it. You touch my body and somehow touch my soul.

My body carries new meaning, born again in the womb of pleasure.

Exposé

Her wounds feel the pain of your dagger.  You do not belong to her.

Your poison is in her mouth, yet someone else is in your heart.

Her eyes trickle with hurt and frustration.  You do not see her genuineness.  You cannot.

After all, she’s a filthy slut on all 4’s.

Her actions and words display a harlot.  She sings the song you want to hear.

You, Sir, are unaware that a brilliant woman kneels before you. She knows the actuality of this circumstance.  She still invites you to repeatedly cut her soul.

Is it possible your love can be absorbed through those cuts and make it’s way to her heart?

No. Your poison is the only thing she can have.  This filthy slut on all 4’s knows.  It’s the only part of yourself that you have to offer.

Crusty Days in Holy Cross

To preface : About past days of freedom being homeless and young in Santa Cruz, California. Thank you.
______________

An overwhelming sense of freedom overtook me.
As we ran carelessly through dirty sidewalks
Barefoot.
The city our playground, everything in it ours for the taking.

I can tell you about Freedom.
The pavement our friend.
Money obsolete
It meant nothing.

Food was abundant, and friendship endless.
We sat and sang and made merry music.
Filthy.
Sweet herbs contrasting rancidity of days with no bathing;
Our odors filled the night air

Our skins tingled with humidity-
Salts and sands mixing with locks of hair
Grains of sand crushed between teeth.

Life was being lived.
“Yuppies” we’d giggle
Casting glances at the people walking by
The ones who stared
Wondering how we could stand to be this dirty, loud, and free.
Secretly wishing that they too could have
our Freedom.
To be free.

When night fell
The true mysticisms began.
Ocean water hitting cliffs made sounds of deep magic.
We danced upon white sands.
With nothing but a bottle and some busted guitar.
Old tunes of love and hate.
Old tunes our fathers sang.

We fell in love
Some fell in Madness.
Perhaps there is no difference between the two?

When the fire of our eyes began to fade,
our bodies fell beneath old trees.
Nature tended to us
Bodies shivering through the early morning
Until the sun of the afternoon shed its rays
upon our frozen corpses.
Bringing us back to life.
So we could live all over again.

Escape Into Poetry

There are words that spill across the paper
As I try to capture it all before it disappears
Into the void; they keep me safe. The shaper
Of my thoughts. Some normality reappears
And I can go back to the girl who fell in love
With eloquent words and sentences that she
Wants to escape to. With every beautiful dove
That shows up within her mind she gets to be
In her own world and away from the pain
For a little while. She forgets about the stain.

   Bel Canto

   Life’s breath
   from deep inside
   upward it climbs
   by diaphragm propelled
   ‘cross thrumming chords
   tune formulates
   dynamics modulate

   Melodious missile
   through troubadour lips explodes
   notes off walls ricochet
   penetrating hearts
   bombarding souls with rhythm

   Aural possession
   causing smiles to grow
toes to tap, fingers to snap
   crystal tears to flow
   happy hands to clap

   Storytelling vibrations
   propagate messages
   of peace, love, pain
   sensuality, rebellion

   To bind wounds
    be continually resurrected
    from the misery
    the tedious doldrums
    of this terrestrial existence
for all this do I sing

The Inner Big Cat In Me

You evoke
the feline in me
my horoscope's alive
Leo's real
the big cat so proud
who prowls, with agility
he purrs as we do sleep
content, hell bent
and strong with sharp
white teeth
I walk with you , I belong
along with prestine
on my own, I lose the tone
I feel but can't be seen
you bring the big cat out
out in me .

Street lights
And suburban houses
They may be different colors
But the living rooms are still the same
Simply with staircases
On opposite walls;

those street lights
Blinking disheveledly
While we scream along to, "Loser" by the Beatles
The heat
Like asfault,
dry and unfufilling
But those nights
Those lights
Make me remember
I am breathing faster and slower and faster again
All the time
All the places
You speak about
I wonder if their street lighgs  look the same
And if the moon
Still speaks to you
When you're in Vermont

Cross-Country Drive

Riding on the highway
With the wind blowing sideways
Zooming passed acres of land
With rushing cornfields forming a band
Observing the changing colors of the sky
As the sun begins to set from up high
Almost Tasting the aroma of sweet croissants
Filling the air As we cruise on
Nothing like diving
Into Cross-country driving

Catching A breath of fresh air
As the hours linger and minutes stare
Nothing makes me feel more alive
And gives me more pleasant delight
Than blasting the stereo from a car
As into the sunset we ride thus far

Pump the music...your voice do raise
As you sing along with tempo and pace
The road is yours....
Sing with force....
Dance as you go
Fast or slow
From the tip of your tongue
To the top of your lungs
Feel how freedom rings
When you raise your voice to sing
Forget the worries...forget the pain
Toss out the heavy chain...
Sing your song, in the open and free
You will come alive, just you see...
