Renga: Sensual Rain
through the rain falling
we chase around apple trees
our bounty bears fruit
tonight with our clothes
drip-drying in the bathtub
distant thunder lulls
new rain arriving—
heartbeats of night passion pause
as we both listen
through blinds lightning's flash
zebra stripes on naked flesh
we're each other's prey
a voyeur's phase ebbs
while wind gusts part swollen clouds
and lovers' thunder
moments before sleep
when all things are possible
our fingers touch rain

Storm: Old Tom and the Tiger’s Cage
In crystal sheets of earth’s despair,
The wanderers, no refuge find,
Cold gates to ravaged soul assail.
A single candle, guidance home,
In mud-roads full of lifetimes’ want,
With glowing of Blake’s burning night.
Sole denizen of alley cans
To heart now caged in foreign climes,
He slipped the bars, her world approach.
And she beginning, sings the hymns,
His song, her plaintive cries recall,
A shelter gained, they’d never known.
Within her breast, he holding sway,
In whispered ayre of muse’s keep,
Assuaging thunder echoes still.
The coming in, with selves widespread
The storm, now only wet remains,
Two souls encircled, slumber, warm.
(my second entry for consideration)
Note: I have chosen this as my second entry - It is an elaboration of the third Quatrain of a sonnet I wrote called Old Tom and the Tiger - (a nursery sonnet). One of my favorites!

Sister Zephyr
The rain arrived with hurricane velocity
Traumatizing L.A.streets
Driven down like airborne nails
While gutter rapids carried souls
It became a question of survival:
Flying home with all due speed
To find shelter in this fragile room
And whatever peace there lies intact
Sister Zephyr breezes in
A calming current, devoid of rage
She blows gently in his ear
And whispers a few lines:
"I will caress you as you write
Inspiring you both day and night
I will nudge you to your best
Whether this be cursed or blessed
Your thoughts are stagnant, turning gray
So the forecast tells me I must stay."

If I could do anything, "...right-this-second, what would it be?"...
I'd be in the rain standing----
Experiencing:
Face pressing;
Black sky surpassing;
---Mouth opening--Watering
---Patiently awaiting;
Tongue flicking;
Reflection erasing;
Viscera originating;
Autonomously existing;
Fear escaping;
Desire breathing;
Demon irrupting;
Soul seeping;
Sight swallowing;
Melody caressing;
Vibrato bending;
Blues scale descending;
Pinky titillating:
Pentatonic sounds illuminating;
Perception looming;
---Heaven's lusting--falling for me
---lingering;
Consciousness sprinkling;
Legs spreading;
Toes oxidizing;
Calf licking;
Thigh relishing;
Loin ravaging;
---Aquamarine Butterflies Soaring!
Moon reaching;
Tummy scraping;
Diaphragm shivering;
Rib keeling;
Thorax seizing;
---Lungs peacefully swimming;
Chin quivering;
Lip sucking;
Teeth clenching;
Cheek collapsing;
Nose wrinkling;
Hair fingering:
Evading;
Grabbing;
Penetrating;
Reverberating;
Burnt offering-Giving;
Succumbing;
---Eyes Cease-Firing;
Owning;
Completing;
Foresting:
----Entirely without uttering
----A genuine sigh.

affair of rain & music
I walked down the steps in the pouring rain, the mean kind
that could knock a sparrow right out of the sky. when the wind
blows, it bends the rain horizontal, like artillery fire, & I take
stinging pellets in the face.
I was coming from the upstairs nightclub where I’d met her
months ago. Tommy the bartender had warned me: a kiss will
break your heart quicker than a bomber’s payload dropping on
a mighty harbor that carries soldiers & sailors on a pine box ride
from here to eternity. he mixed metaphors as well as he mixed
a whiskey sour.
we spent many good nights together then, (that woman of a gypsy
heart), nights without rain. we drank whiskey that had lived a long
time in stout oak barrels, then died parachuting out of a shot glass
as I swallowed it.
being a house of phantasmal turpitude, the club had a little orchestra
of strings melancholic & a drum of rambling thunder. the singer,
Kaiti Kink, delivered old jazz love letters written in dusted words. the
mood caressed us like a cinematic temptress when we danced.
one night as I drank alone, she (whom I do not name because of the
hurt) was on a plane bound for her city in old Poland; I knew not if she
returned to a man or an obligation. I had given her something that I
could never use again, & I figured I’d regret it in time. she carried my
heart in her bustier, close to hers, & I worried that it would not cling
to her bosom when she disrobed. although I loved her, I suppose.
the music was smooth, it was mellow, but it was just music. the rain
is just rain, & the wind blows here same as it does in Tokyo or Berlin.
all these things are just as they seem, but in my prowling for romance
& poetry, I’ve found that a woman never is…

#7: “Anyone who thinks that sunshine is pure happiness, has never danced in the rain.”
Dancing In The Rain
Let the sunshine rain sparkle atop
Your head as you spin around trying
To catch every last single drop.
With your smile and dying
Sadness, you are in pure bliss.
You forget all about crying
All over again. Every kiss
And magical dance lets me forget
About the all things I will miss
Out on forever. Every regret
Is tossed away like yesterday’s
Trash. Every lit cigarette
Is extinguished. Chasing rays
Is not so important anymore
When you will want to raise
Your arms up to erase every sore
And bruise left behind.
This was all back before
You knew the power. The wind
Will take you to a new place
And you will feel alive. You will find
Something better you can trace
With your finger.
Be happy and lift your face
Up to the rain. Let that feeling linger
And last for a lifetime.
This world is so much bigger.

Hello All!
With intermittent storms
here and gone,
the days are shortened
to a scant few,
but still enough
to inundate the view
still lovely on the 3rd.
Three days remaining, dear poets, to bring the rain in on the wind.

When We Prayed for Rain
…And for a long time when we prayed for rain.
We felt the pain of a long continuous drought,
And when it finally came it came unrestrained,
Now the relentless showers feel drawn-out.
Although the hills and valleys are green again,
And the mountain peaks are full of snow,
In some cities they are getting torrential floods,
As the dams break loose into the towns below.
And now I hear that some pray for it to stop,
Their crops are being sunk and submerged,
Now some towns are being run down,
By the power of water that suddenly surged.
But I guess…
We’re guests of this earth, of Mother Nature,
We’re here like a blink of an eye in the spec of time,
So when the water falls once and for all,
What we pray for sometimes may not be so divine.
Yet I…
I find the rain all so cleansing, loving what I’m sensing,
When the storm pours it feels as if it bathes my soul,
With each and every raindrop tapping at my window,
Like when rivers flow making life ample and whole.
