The scent of rind

while segmenting an orange as I
absent-mindedly walk the garden

a waxing crescent moon ascends
for the third day in a row

racing the juice
that runs up my arms

my mind going to a time
of unrelenting heat

that has turned into night
and too warm to wear it down

making the touch of my own flesh
drink from your sweat as we connect

a faint light hooks the ends of
my hair at that moment

and how lovely the scent of rind
that won't wash off of me for days

Aromatic Romantic

I had forgotten her name
I couldn’t remember her face
She was from another time
That's now distant place

That was till I attended
My college reunion
Where in an hotel hallway
I smelled her perfume

Memories of my old lover
Were awaken in clarity
How could I have ever forgotten
Such wonderful beauty?

I asked myself, would she remember me
By my erogenous fragrance?
Would fond memories of me
Be awaken by my redolence?

Time to take a shower
And splash on some cologne
Tonight of all nights
I don't want to sleep alone

memories

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes
Exhaling deeply she opened  them;blinking occasionally to try to adjust to the enveloping, suffucating pitch black. The smell of lilacs was overpowering brining with  it's  heavy perfume a thick fog that clouded  her mindset. Through the thick mist memories seemed to assault her viciously;vivid pictures of happier noments-long forgotten. Beautifully painted portraits swimming and swirling round-left untouched and neglected tucked away safely in the back of her mind. Packed up carefully in the seldom used recesses of her heart...When he was here with her-two souls dancing forever entwined.

LOTUS BLOSSOM

day's ending green
my reisho recalls her heart
a single candle's light

opened by my brush
eight petals in night winds
a lotus flower

in my bed
Akimitzu washes the air
tastes of stars' breath

Author's Note: in Japanese,  "reisho" is the name for clerical calligraphy script.  Akimitzu is a given name meaning "spirit light."

Scentually

I had been in that office for quite some time,
When a woman wore that specific scent,
It sent me down memory lane, to days of youth,
When emotions and aromas were effervescent.

I was suddenly sixteen again, young back then,
When innocence was at the cusp of an awakening,
A trace of roses, lilies, rosewood, maybe sandalwood,
When I finally understood and found it all enlightening.

It was the mixture of passions and fragrances,
And the differences between lost love and opportunity,
But most of all it was the distinct and clear remembrances,
Of the times and chances that slipped away so ruefully.

So all I did was smile, thankful for that little memory trip,
Which seemed to remind me of a secret I had forgotten,
And the cherished memory went back to sleep, scentually,
Amid dreams of wanton and lust, beaten and downtrodden.
