Petals of Fire

Slow dancing alone
On the ledge of
The highest skyscraper
Wearing a long
Black gown chosen
From her closet full
Of orphaned dresses

Numb from airplane
Birds flying by
No longer wondering
Or wishing to cry
Gracefully moving to
Musical games of lost
Russian Roulette parents

Too desensitized
To hear the fear
Up high on steel
Concrete and mirrored glass
Reflecting her slightly
Crooked balancing act
With indifferent confidence

Her black endless dress
Swimming in the wind
Is starting to fade
Too close to the sun
Thread bare like
Her scorched charred skin
Any moment ready
To self combust

Into survival with style
Ignited by sun and air
Shifting into a
Polished inferno
Unafraid to
Multiply and sire
Skin & fabric tailored
Into thousands of black

Petals of Fire

Author's Note
Loved The Queen's Gambit on Netflix. The whole miniseries was great.
Who ever did the wardrobe was amazing. Loved everything she wore!!!
So much growth and independence reflected in her clothes. Yes - to me - it
was that fabulous. LOL
Considering she was an orphan - it had me rooting for her!!
Never learned how to play Chess but I can check your ass in Checkers. LOL

The Two Feet video has some of my favorite clips of the show if you're curious.
