Winter Poems
#winter
Winter poems about the coldest season of the year, December to February in the northern hemisphere and June to August in the southern hemisphere. Winter brings short dark days and stillness, as nature sleeps. Here you'll find poems about the beauty of the winter months, and also poems about dealing with cold and challenging weather.
Univocalic (E)
Remember the December weekend
when we went There?
We were free!
Bed; sleep; zen!
Yet...
extreme freeze!
We were very peeved.
Trees were bent by the breeze;
the cement, the green—
deep sheet; gentle sheen.
Brr!
Where's my vest?
The vestments? The helmets?
Tremble, freeze, eek!
Remedy: expend restless, excess energy.
Flex feet, flex knees;
exert selves.
Deep freeze.
Breeze between zephyr, vent.
Help!
Hey! New jeep!
Wheels repel elements.
Whee!

Chattered Teeth
Its frigid like a whip outside
the Hawk is out
I took two steps in brisk
to land clenched teeth in mouth
Consider me a visiting guest
I’m not used to low temps
There’s beach life sun at home
arctic gust took my energy limp
Dr. Seuss me some Camu Camu
to keep immunity high
Then toke condensated puffs in jest
to keep comic from going awry
I can’t stand in the cold
I can’t stand it at all
Have me laid up in downed sheets
smothered curled in a ball
Sniffles flute to whistle
wrapped burrito like when born ...

Simple
The sun out here is so bright.
Around the snaking slippery banks.
Of this creek.
It's still winter.
But the snow is melting into peculiar puddles.
That line the slushy snow.
There's always reserved ravens.
And a couple of crows.
Looming ominously over the skeletal remains of the glen by the creek.
Stillness.
Dried out carcasses.
Of recycled animals.
Brown and black with dirt.
It's quiet.
Out here.
In the boonies.
WIth the shrill cold wind blowing through leaveless trees.

Seasonal Expedition
Our expedition started in Fall, days get short, nights are cold, then the frost freezes all.
Do you remember Winter my belly warmed up them toes.
Sniffling and sneezing as the boogers flow from your nose.
For me please be patient as Winter breaks into spring. blanket of snow soon will melt, you and I listen to all the songs they will sing.
We chirp our way into summer, warm, fuzzy sun has its lips on our skin. Let's not cheap out on the lotion or we might boil from within.

A First Encounter.....
The town sleeps, wrapped in the hush of streetlights, the distant hum of power lines, the sigh of trees shifting in the breeze. He moves through it like a ghost, barefoot on the pavement, the night cool against his skin. This is the only time he feels real.
He walks without a destination, tracing invisible paths, listening to the whisper of his own breath. The world is his, for these few hours. No voices sneering his name. No hands grabbing, pushing, tearing. Just the sky, endless and waiting.
The stars blink, cold and patient. The moon watches, unmoved. And yet—tonight,...

Dry logs redden and snap;
Dry logs redden and snap;
The fire is soon impressive.
The wolf moon takes better shape
As night begins to settle in.
I watch the conflagration spike;
A spark flies off, then others
Like the universe had coaxed them
To become one of the stars.

Crystal Winter Sky
The day moves so slowly
Frozen in it's breath
Sun goes down so lonely
In the distant frosty west
Cold, malevolent winds are blowing
All hope has gone away
While fading life is flowing
Into a wintry, snowy haze
Icicles frozen in time
A snow angel spreads her wings to fly
Church bells and gongs chime
Hands reach out into a crystal winter sky
Frozen in it's breath
Sun goes down so lonely
In the distant frosty west
Cold, malevolent winds are blowing
All hope has gone away
While fading life is flowing
Into a wintry, snowy haze
Icicles frozen in time
A snow angel spreads her wings to fly
Church bells and gongs chime
Hands reach out into a crystal winter sky

don’t know how, or why
saw a butterfly drifting erratically past the window
in early february
and you said that’s not
possible of
course that it might quite well have been late january
but it definitely caught my eye

February Frost
The oak trees in winter
into the painted grey skies
ghosts of the midwinter fires
flames of darkness, touching down on earth
the purest water of the black lake
the great cold death brought forth

Frosty Mornings
Sun shiny golden
Days brightness turning to snow
Storms havoc creates.
February flies
Into Marches windy wishes
For Springs returning.
For now nature brims
Baleful ice frosted mornings
Magic by arctic.

I’m cold
in a dressing gown over my clothes most
of the time in the house during winter
saves putting on the heating of course we
have the occasional visitor but
darling I don’t care what they’re thinking
