The unanswerable

An interesting question
I seem to get asked is:

Do you wear
any other clothes?

you might take this
as somewhat rude
but I always felt
less spoke more

and no, I don't
believe it's due
to age or any
myths we will
often say to
ourselves

I feel life can be
so complicated

so dressing like
it does must have
passed this frame
I have to work with

truth is, I will never
leave without my
sunglasses so

if I forget those I
insist on...

Please write me down with your eyes

note the smile I gift
walking across these
white chlorine tiles,

did you believe I was broken
lost in strange text fonts
covered in hateful lies

does my irony upset you
as my scars dance naked
in broad daylight?

does my small frame offend you
as my body ripples water we
happen to share and glide

does my laughter slice
through your pupils
measured in media
sized ignorance?

please write me down
with your eyes,

my scars will
bare a smile
back at you.

The Cross

I die every day, not in body but in soul.
Every dawn brings a new absence,
a void that expands,
swallowing the colors of the world.

I walk through streets empty of emotions,
where faces are masks
and the smiles are empty reflections.
The human touch has been lost
replaced with mechanical gestures.

The heart beats, but does not feel,
eyes see, but do not see.
The mind screams in silence
in an endless search for meaning
in a barren land of non-empathy.

I die every day, being reborn in fragments,

to embark on a quest,

lonely adventure

breathing exercises,

ignore sharp objects
and write it all out

Way of the water

I submerge into water
 
remembering  
how I learnt to  
point my toes
 
thumbs down
elbows up

feet turning into  
little flippers in  
a short space  
of an hour,
 
learning to retrieve  
bricks in the deep
end of a 25 m pool
 
how I never wanted
to return back home,
 
I wanted to dive
in just like my
heroes did

The fiery god

I brush my nails
over amber bottles

making music
at eleven thirty
before my shift
slowly wraps up,

sometimes I still
taste those fiery
gods fuelling in
the back of
my throat

out delicate
as monarch
