Summer Poems
#summer
Summer poems about the warmest season of the year, June to August in the northern hemisphere and December to February in the southern hemisphere. Summer brings the longest days, where things heat up with summer fun, and nature is in full bloom.
Summer Rain
summer rain is gently falling
on the trees both short and tall in
the forest on the mountain,
a liquid luscious from sky fountain
sustaining life for every being
as I'm sitting drinking tea in
the light of early morning
rhythmic rhyming here now dawning
pitter patter pitter patter
raindrops falling then they shatter
on tree branches and the ground,
on my car roof with soothing sound
as waves of natural condensation
create from evaporation
drips which trickle into streams,
ocean mixed with sunlight...

High Summer
The pavement cracks and shimmers
below the magnifying glass of sun
that burns and drives the ants inside
as others free of work this day
lie down inside a case of cream
and scorch like hams around their seams.
It’s been a year now since your father died,
high summer marked his transition
from off this world to that, and yet questions
remain. Perhaps the African, with whom
the man claimed your father sought
forgiveness in the lord, would know
the answers that you seek. Often they come
to this: why do you love someone who...

A Soundtrack Without Air Condition
Summer
Present
Heat
Muggy
Oppressive
Both Night & Day
You can't escape it
You sleep & sweat
You fuck & sweat
You think & sweat
The smell of your two bodies fills the air in the room
The moisture holds it and makes you relive it over and over, breath after breath
You die without going anywhere
Stomachs slick & rubbing together
Cum & sweat
Wet hot greasy necks trying to break themselves
All the sucking & smacking sounds
The sound of teeth clicking
The heat works on your brain ...

Life Lessons pt 4 (Revelations)
(It did not rain all the time in London. The sidewalks were cleaner. Older Londoners love to have tea with milk and cookies. I remember there was also a thing about flowers in the front yard and it had to look better than someone else’s)
This was our last week in the UK. David and I were allowed to see each other as long as there was an adult nearby.
My sister and I and the other cousins went to meet up with some of their friends from school. These are the same bunch of girls that offered me the cigarette.

summer evening
a runner in the evening sunlight...
someone cycling down a hill...
I'm parked beside a curb so I might
have my senses filled...
with children's sounds somewhere nearby,
kid's immortality
breaking through the thoughts which tie
to this reality...
in the trees and on the wires
communicating crows
young ones' begging never tires
as every parent knows...
in the atmosphere the dronning
of something flying high
engine firing noisy moaning
as it passes by...
in the summer, early evening

Buck Incantation
Heavenly gold...heavenly light;
inveigle me to sleep.
Defuse my day into a night
of slumber extra deep.
Bless my soul with your golden kiss
to mesmerize my eyes
and then your soft summertime bliss
will cultivate the skies.
Cast all of your insouciant glow
into our minds and hearts
with all the peace and love you know...
in ethereal arts.
Whisper from your reflective height
the sun's atomic spell...
transmogrified, like angel flight,
to Terra...nonpareil.

Moon Garden
The primrose blooms worship the moon
as the honesty plants turn gold
like the coins where Scrooge McDuck rolled
on possibly an old doubloon...
and all glowing in unison,
except for the fantasy loot
which I've heard is the evil root
and thusly the hue unchristen.
Yet Scrooge McDuck might just agree
since gold is found outside the vaults
of Janus Christianity
and all their moral somersaults
which forms not on gold as found
on orchard plums and lunar phase ...

Northern Cross
A poultry flock through Cygnus flew
almost beyond my sight...
so appropriate thereunto
they really made my night.
So silently they crossed the sky
northwest to Dipper stars
where dauntless flocks all learn to fly
like avian hussars.
Strange that I heard no honks therefrom
in all their midnight flight.
Did they to Lyra's spell succumb
or were they just polite?
I think 'twas acme Cygnus
preeminent above
that had the squadron virtuous...
in plumy gaggle love.

Hail to Jamaica, the Island of Springs!
Peace on her meadows her radiance flings.
Beauty and gladness have made thee, dear land,
The loveliest spot in earth’s wide, watered strand.”
—Astley Clerk, Jamaican Patriot (May 1868-May 1944)
summers shall not cease,
nor springtime, while the breeze
hoola-hoops the mango leaves
and stirs the guinep trees.
every flow’r that blooms
for maidens and their grooms,
every tear of him who grieves,
nor brevity assumes,
while the green grass springs

Summer is ..
July
Heat
Staying light late
Watermelon
Flesh exposed
Complaining about weather
Humidity
Bugs
Alcohol haze
Horniness
This year political madness
They all suck
I’ll take Kamala
At least she’s lucid
Back to regular programming
Sleep deprived
Did I say horny ?
Mood
Would be poet
Widow Jane Rye
Gradation
He’s got a good curveball
The boys of summer
Beer

Gnomon
It was noon by the garden dial sun,
which, through a modicum of lazy air
bearing dragonflies on a midday run,
made lucent the primrose blooms everywhere
and burdened the clover with parching droop
striving to retain its March Irish green
even as the flourishing lettuce group
ruled the herbal and pepper scene
set against the cinder block background grey
with flecks of moss by porosity clung
to make it through the blazing solar ray
the almanac so ruthlessly hung...
like redolence in cornscateous air...
as assets...
