Forever in my Memory
I'm looking at my hands and seeing my father
I do this often
He was a quiet man
I wanted so much more from him
His passion
An occasional embrace
Knowledge
I'm still searching in my hands
For answers that won't come
Still I try ...
And will continue to try
There's so many answers somewhere
There was life then death
I remain focused...

rest my love
breath by breath the unsteady rhythm of death
shadowing your soul the angels are waiting for you
medicated now for comfort
the doctors know what they won't tell me
I'm losing you for the last time
my heart swells, I desire to save you from that demon
but I realize living is sometimes too painful
somehow I know I failed you utterly and it's too late
for the days in the sun, I thought we would have
look on me kindly when you can
my soul found yours in the end
my being always loved you
with every bit of me
sacred...

He's sobbing, overwhelmed
on the edge of adulthood
desperate to be told who he is
while balking against all limits
A joy and a treasure since birth,
what a gift that he shares
this tender heart,
this need for mom's hugs
And if I could, I'd relieve his confusion
But all my wisdom feels useless.
I know now,
I will have to witness
him gathering his own.
