Too many
I have had plenty of many moms,
some witches, which is not that bad,
many hags, who had made me sad.
So many moms so little differences...
Some such bad opinions to share,
some much good ideas to spare.
I can recognize them with a glare.
I can sort them by a simple affair.
I spot all of them here and there.
Waiting at my classroom door...
Trying to read my thoughts.
Aiming to reach me in a hunt.
Moms should never get close
to their children teachers, ever!
Our planets are too far away...
some witches, which is not that bad,
many hags, who had made me sad.
So many moms so little differences...

Silly Minutes
What are we doing after math?
A blurted out of nowhere question
begets a blurted out of nowhere response:
Riding ponies and juggling.
I say it so quickly and confidently,
a few students look at me quizically
like it might be true.
I want to ride a unicorn! says one of my favorite boys
If you can find one you can ride it, I assure him.
What are we going to juggle asks one of the girls.
I dunno. Spiral notebooks?
We giggle over a few more ideas.
Then we get back to PEMDAS.
Silly minutes...

electrified, the window rolled
down so she can poke her head out
savor the town's fragrances
a cornucopia of scents, a rush
she cannot know roaming nearby.
What if parents told children to
poke their heads out of car windows
have their feet find asphalt
nearer homes of the unshod, to prowl
past broken doors, to know the clatter
of empty feeding bowls, to hear
not just the screech of classroom chairs
on vinyl floors and the howl of audiences
in ball games...

Your Day to Fart
it has been said
that teachers make 1,000 decisions a day
that number seems low
and then there's...everything else
after lunch (why does math always have to be after lunch?)
i'm writing a math problem on the Smartboard (I love my Smartboard)
i'm thinking about the copies I didn't get to make for Social Studies
about more forms I have to fill out
about the sad, teach to the test ethos permeating the district (and country)
about my new student who does not speak a word of English
joining two others in my class who barely do ...
