Your Day to Fart

it has been said
that teachers make 1,000 decisions a day
that number seems low
and then there's...everything else
 
after lunch (why does math always have to be after lunch?)
i'm writing a math problem on the Smartboard (I love my Smartboard)
i'm thinking about the copies I didn't get to make for Social Studies
about more forms I have to fill out
about the sad, teach to the test ethos permeating the district (and country)
about my new student who does not speak a word of English
joining two others in my class who barely do
i;m thinking about many things at once
when suddenly there's the 6th grade war cry
"Someone farted!!"
 
I don't have time for this
so I shut it right down
"I guess today was their day to fart.
Maybe tomorrow will be yours"
 
Nothing they could say to that
 
so let's get down to math, shall we?
