The River Aruns' Dragon
The Yellow, and Black Club-Tailed Dragonfly
Hovers above the Trespasser, nee Ptolemys' Trisantonis
Flirting briefly with the fast flowing river
Then quick as a streak of lightning
Flutters off, to linger above the reed-beds
As it pirouettes daintily upon the breeze
Its' reflective vibrancy, silhouetted on the Wetlands
With the appearance, from a short distance
An ethereal fancy, of a fluttering fairy
Or an obscure looking Wasp, or Hornet
Natures way, a sense of curious attraction
Supplying a Dragon, over the River Arun

The Dark Midnight Lights
Along the River Rother
Torch-lights search the muddy banks
Seeking out, the lost, and lonely
After a small boat had been sank
Sadly shattering, those living
As young childhood was taken
A parents one moment of carelessness
Thinking it safe, but were sadly mistaken
The cruel undercurrents, by Rye Harbour
Had stolen some more victims to enslave
The lifeboat on this occasion, unsuccessful
As three young children, were swept away to their grave
circa early 1970's

Witches in threes?
Stunned eyes on a glowing tree?
A beacon of light on the darkest night?
What do your eyes see?

The River Arun, West Sussex
Flowing by the wetlands of Arundel
Overlooked by a castle up on high
Ptolemy first called it the Trisantonis
Is the River Arun running by
Also known as the Trespasser
A Southern Celtic Brythonic interpretation of the word
An indication of its tendency to flood
For centuries, this has been observed
Part of the Arun, was rumoured to be called the Arnus
Brythonic for run, go, or flow
And that Arundel may mean Arno-Dell
Or where the Dell of the flowing river did go
Remains of Iron-Age forts
To Roman ruins, signs of...

Water Babies
Mother ocean
Her veins stretch inwards
As her life blood
Leaks into rivulets
Of rivers
They are her water babies

The Incredible Bore!
The River Trent, of the Humber
Usually at slumber
Had a bore
At it's core
Where it would rise
To all and sundry's surprise
From it's tranquil repose
The tidal current rose
Whils't in the Wheelhouse
Sat i, like a frightened mouse
As on the radar screen
A six foot river monster, was to be seen
The ship rose to a new height
As my fear, turned to fright
Yet within moments, it was gone
As the river returned to it's normal calm

The Zen Master
The watermeadow said,
"I cannot explain to you
how I do this",
as the flowers came forth,
and their time there
was spent playing and laughing.

The Friend in Morning
When I come outside I see the morning,
the birds are singing, sorrily
— there is a train rolling
through the East bottoms,
Since four o'clock,
the rooster across the alley,
he's been up and crowing,
The wind chimes I can hear,
Marmaton around the corner
playing his banjo from the balcony,
He stands for, Friend, come here.
I was named after a river,
and the grey clouds rolling in, you can see,
is where the promised rain is kept.
I've lived a long and far journey,
Friend, listen to...

Acupuncture
my heart’s been dropped
one too many times between
floorboards where pearls
were cultivated in soil and
barbs vines
moments which taught me to
look away, relentlessly
mindfully origami’ed.
quietly lost, I wonder off
path into unordain
territory
I think of father, how stars
would fall out of the sky as he
would orbit empty bottles
with no real courage only
liquid psychosis bittering his
inner divinity
he kept vocals and affection
hidden as though they were ...

What's In My Backpocket?
I got 2 trowels in my back pocket
My back pocket, my back pocket
I got 2 trowels in my back pocket, and I don't know when to quit
I got 2 scoops of oyster crackers in my back pocket
My back pocket, my back pocket

I got a piece of salami in my back pocket
My back pocket, my back pocket
I got a piece of salami in my back pocket, and I don't know when to quit
I'm going down to the river and giving them fish a piece of my mind
Or maybe a little...

Tigris and Euphrates
My mind falls upon the timeless Tigris.
From her mountain source she flows,
Along her path written in the sands of destiny.
Passing the forgotten cities of Babylon,
No heed is paid by her endless meander.
Vaguely she flows through time,
Sweeping with her the secrets of the City of Wisdom.
The ghosts of Umayyads and Abbassids drink from her still.
Her sapphire sister, the maiden Euphrates,
Keeps course along her own destined way.
The gem of Sumer,
Gilgamesh himself still bows his head to her fate.
