Poems about Masculinity
#masculinity
Poems about masculinity and what it means to be a man. Poetry about masculinity within mass media and the portrayal of men in societies around the world. Poems about changing attitudes towards masculinity; those who want to do away with traditional gender roles and those who feel vilified or left behind.

Waste words
on shadows.
Hear the echoes
of whispers
on the wind.
Say it louder,
with your chest,
say what you know
needs to be said.
Let the world
in all it’s light
see you for all the colors
you hold within.
Pink is pretty
and that’s just fine
to want that
a little bit.

CHARACTER SKETCH
he only had one ball
and it was hanging
almost mid thigh
that's how hard
his life had been

that's how hard

dark lif matters
Dark life matters
Woke up in the night it was very dark
put a hand out couldn´t see it.
I wonder how it is to be blind?
In this flat, if no one rearranges the furniture
it would be easy, find the kitchen too.
Opening the fridge is a breeze, it is of no interest
if its light comes on or not.
Remember to clean your hands!
On nights like this, I should be contemplating my death
but my vanity gets in the way.
Should I smile or look grim, and would they remember
to put tanning cream on my face?

Nosebleed
I don't think I'm angry enough...
Road raging drunks
Demanding sovereignty of the road
I didn't ask for conflict
I just wanted to get home
My son.
Still a child. 17...
My child.
I insisted that he stay.
Following my own advice
Still haunts me everyday
I can smell the man's beer breath
On my upper lip
I can taste his putrid hate
Every time that he spits
My forehead still Burns
From when he pushed his to mine
It throbs like a bomb
In need of more time
Words were exchanged, it's all now...

A Man's Character...
Man's character is like the edge beyond the border
Along the body or across the soul,
Where behind a wall of hardened steel
Lurks pain at the edge of silence
Man's character - like that thunderstorm in a rush
In the midst of the heavens beyond the rocks in the darkness,
Where suddenly the tears are salty, grasping
Mixes in desperate rain
Man's character - like a straight line,
Where on the breaks it is piercingly sharp,
But all the same gives up, slowly burning,
Desiring affection and feminine warmth

THE FUZZY BEAST
listen...
a boy lets it spill
but a man has learned to tuck it in
and hold it close
and push on through
and not shake
or quake
or cower
or at least not let anybody see
and hell, son,
feelings ain't shit
and ain't nobody gonna
ask about your feelings anyway
'cause you're man
and a man don't fret
and don't dwell
and don't crack or cry
but stands stalwart
and takes it on
and damn if a man whose beat down
can't fake a swagger
and say "fuck it" and "goddamn"
and flick...

I should have known
Who?
What?
You’re kidding, right?
Everyone?
Men and women?
Except for me and Amy Weiss?
Really, everyone?
I know I’m in San Francisco, but who would’ve thought.
Never in my wildest dreams.
I guess maybe I should’ve known.
Like that time when we were roller skating and that cute man pinched my ass and then winked at me.
I thought I just had a cute ass.
I should’ve known.
I’m from Chicago.
In Chicago cute men don’t pinch your ass.
Well, maybe they do.
Are you telling me I’m the only straight man in the city? ...

OPEN BOOK (Melancholia With a Side of Anxiety: The Breakfast of Champions)
i've always just pulled it out of bed
no matter how dark it got
and dragged it through the day
regardless of how beat down
and miserable i was
because that's what i was taught a man does
it's as though being broken inside
is some sort of sin against
the gods of masculinity --
a sign of unforgivable weakness --
because a man doesn't whine or coddle himself
but carries his own weight and walks the pain off
and does what he's got to do
and that, my friend, is that
and so some of us self medicate...

Your... Masculine
I want you...
I want to pull off your pants
Push you on the bed
Run my tongue along your neck,
below...
Swiftly down
To your
Desired Male
Elastic
Thirsty...
Touch your fingers...
And slowly delightfully,
closing your eyes,
clasp my lips...
In sweet anticipation...
And draw my tongue to the base
Feeling the surface...
And again to return upward,
feeling the throbbing in anticipation...
And at the very elevation,
outline the contours with a searching
Wet...

I am the Chest of all Men
I am the chest of all men,
Concave to the rushes of their gray days;
I know the guilts and grief of their women,
What hides in the shoots of their fat dreams,
Staged in the hollows of their pillows.
I beat the breasts of all men,
Drink then rue the body of time spent
Drinking,
I see their dance of sinews:
there at the seams of the night,
shivering shadows,
skin abrupting skin.
I am the chest of all men,
flex the biceps of yellowed ambitions
caress the paintings and books
