Desert Poems
#desert
Desert poems, poetry about the desert; uninhabited, desolate and arid landscape. Nature poems about deserts, areas covered with sand or rocks, where there is little rain or plant life.
Bill Moore
Fingertips drawn to dust
Hands stained by the blood of rocks
With his gentle brush
And strokes that changed
To the sun’s mood
Just colorless orphans
Of forgotten earth
Until he came
With all the colors of grace
Alive in the death of the desert
With a soul ordained
For the artist
For the painter
For the priest
Hands stained by the blood of rocks
With his gentle brush
And strokes that changed
To the sun’s mood
Just colorless orphans
Of forgotten earth
Until he came
With all the colors of grace
Alive in the death of the desert
With a soul ordained
For the artist
For the painter
For the priest

Borne Fey Over Burnt Blanca
Borne Fey Over Burnt Blanca
A marital spat erupts between the Aztec creator and creatrix of humankind. The male God banishes a mortal woman to Mictlán the Aztec purgatory for praying to the female embodiment of the divine. There she will walk barefoot across burning sand and rocks. But the creatrix can finesse the denouement into feminine favor with a defector from hubby’s very own brotherhood.
Sand clouds flap-like angels wings across the dunes as the desert turns crimson. The blood of the virgin paints the sky. Her pain is buried deep in her heart. The Lord of Duality...

Dusk in the Desert
I swear, this summer’s sun
still scorches close to night
as I must have been the wettest there
returning home from my desert hike!
Got to take photos of desert fare;
saw a monster, orange and black
looked no worse for wear
nor thirsty for a damp redact!
Getting difficult now for me to see
few streetlamps light my way
relying on starlight skies for me
‘fore denizens emerge to play.

Life is a Journey of Death
I walk alone through this lonely planet,
My days buried in cold dust.
Looking through my dead eyes,
Toward an empty horizon,
To find a place I would belong at last.
I wove the eternity of time into my depth,
Heard the culling of human,
And the earth they left.
I hope of a new dawn as seasons turn blue,
Plague colors my faith inside, that I hold true.
Sun descends on a gray world that made us be,
Lets a ripple reach the stars, the silent water is me.
A freezing rain falls from the sky,
As I smell the sea I always held...
My days buried in cold dust.
Looking through my dead eyes,
Toward an empty horizon,
To find a place I would belong at last.
I wove the eternity of time into my depth,
Heard the culling of human,
And the earth they left.
I hope of a new dawn as seasons turn blue,

Sun descends on a gray world that made us be,
Lets a ripple reach the stars, the silent water is me.
A freezing rain falls from the sky,
As I smell the sea I always held...

Out Here, There are No Stars
Out here, there are no stars,
No tracks, no wayward lean.
Out here, unclear, untraced,
Out here, is just our words.
We brace the night like savages,
Like weavers of the untold psalms,
Just firelight myths and stolid drums.
We dance emblazed in cloudless skies.
Out here, no home remains,
Just ruins, reckless bones
Out here, we have no sun.
Out here, the broken songs
The bear once held the canyon trees,
The snake, in curls, the river’s end.
We have no hold of...
No tracks, no wayward lean.
Out here, unclear, untraced,
Out here, is just our words.
We brace the night like savages,
Like weavers of the untold psalms,

We Were More Than the Heavens Above
You called me bitch countless times
How could one forget?
Even though I felt our time was well spent
We never bothered investing in what truly mattered
I dragged you in my shitty vehicle
Incapable of traversing desert trails
In an attempt to astound you with stars and planets
Exercising that so called “investment”
We fucked, we kissed, in those shadowed dunes
Sand glazed lips and dusty chests
The moon at our backs
We were missing out
We came for the night sky
To look for shooting stars
And see...

She Wolf
I lean to arch & crane my back & neck
To gaze up at the moon’s thick facial scars
From war clubs of the Inca and Aztec
In ceremony’s flight to reach the stars.
A she wolf on a ridge from where I pause
Looks up beseechingly into the night,
Her bristled fur, the digging in of claws
Will marrow forth its bone into moonlight.
The scene reminded me when I was born;
It was the mother Moon that is the same
And here I look upon its she-wolf form
Of which I suckled milk and live its name.
I know...

I Can Fly in the Desert
I didn’t notice I was floating
Even though I knew I was weightless
And the air grew thinner above me
I didn’t see the lilacs below
Where they’d once touched my feet
No.. I didn’t see them
Or the cascading mountains
That held the wasteland in a sandy cage
I was taller than the peaks of them
But nothing occurred to me
I didn’t know that I was ascending
Into a fresher, clearer atmosphere
I recollected something, as the sun fell under the pastel horizon
I’d found solace in the distance
And freedom in the blooms...
Even though I knew I was weightless
And the air grew thinner above me
I didn’t see the lilacs below
Where they’d once touched my feet
No.. I didn’t see them

When She’s Ready
The desert is so naked in the eyes of many
She was small, hidden, and undetectable
They said, grow up
Little girl, chin up
You can bear it
This mentality is debilitating
But when the rain washed over her
They didn’t see the roots
Of a woman beginning
Cultivating, photosynthesizing
In the shadow of their ignorance
When she’s ready, she’ll be armed
With a voice too loud to ignore
When she’s ready, she’ll be shining
Colorful and demanding
You’ll find yourself running
When she’s ready
She’ll bloom ...
She was small, hidden, and undetectable
They said, grow up
Little girl, chin up
You can bear it
This mentality is debilitating
But when the rain washed over her
They didn’t see the roots
Of a woman beginning
Cultivating, photosynthesizing
In the shadow of their ignorance
When she’s ready, she’ll be armed
With a voice too loud to ignore
When she’s ready, she’ll be shining
Colorful and demanding
You’ll find yourself running
When she’s ready
She’ll bloom ...
