Desert Poems
#desert
Desert poems, poetry about the desert; uninhabited, desolate and arid landscape. Nature poems about deserts, areas covered with sand or rocks, where there is little rain or plant life.
The Braille of Wind
There's something different about the wind
that's travelled a long, long way
and a weary heaviness
as if compressed by the weight of miles
yet full of exotic scents and ozone
Eagerly you face the breeze
now caressing your face as you wet your lips
tasting spices from high desert plains
and sun baked granite cliffs
There's tang on the tip of the tongue
alkaline, dry and brittle yet with the softness
of thousand year old dust
desiccating with love
There's...

in the desert
here
i saw
myself alone
in the
ocean
of sand,
my shoes
leaving
their
conversations,
my thoughts
running low,
and
in the end,
i lost
myself
out there,
to be
weathered,
my silence
got no
discussion
from
the sky,
the wind,
all those
little
creatures
thought
nothing
while
trespassing
over
my bones.

Dust
The flowers are beautiful and they die
human beings are not beautiful
but they die anyway!
The flowers turn to dust.
Humans turn to dust.
I love the smell of flowers
but I'm allergic to dust.
I'm allergic to humans.
But if one day I return from the dust,
I would love for it to be in the form
of a dusty desert flower!
human beings are not beautiful
but they die anyway!
The flowers turn to dust.
Humans turn to dust.
I love the smell of flowers
but I'm allergic to dust.
I'm allergic to humans.
But if one day I return from the dust,
I would love for it to be in the form
of a dusty desert flower!

Arizona Highway
I stopped along the roadside
the saguaro cactus caught my eye
caps of snow lying upon
their prickly heads held high.
Never shivering in
their skins of green
as they stood there proudly by
in the Arizona desert
against the pale blue southwest sky.

The Straw Hat Photo
a photo I like
is from late afternoon
of the day I met him
He was already gone by then
for over two years it turned out
but that afternoon
I would be seeing him again
in just a few days
New to the Southwest
the first of two times
I was wearing a silly straw hat
oversized sunglasses
a denim skirt above my knees.
I met him by the mailboxes
got in his car
guided him to the house
What I like about the photo
is my simple shadow
the rough asphalt
a crack in the canvas

That
bring me stones when you come back
from everywhere
of all the cracks you find
bring me pebbles and rare gems
bring me the void between the words
and throw precious stones at me
throw me to the ground with your gaze
throw sand in my eyes
and throw my remains to the stubble
bring me stones when you come back...

Autumn in Phoenix
Vibrant reds and yellows
swaths of orange
streak the sky
in a valley of millions
sunset air pollution
at least its pretty
brisk breezes of Fall
crisp red apples
earthy cider wafts
of cloves and cinnamon
hay rides under warm blankets
seasonal pleasures
enjoyed by those further north
glad at least some get to experience them
this time of year
is an arborial fashion show
change in the air
the promise of snow
but not here

A Man You Ought to Love
The Buddha’s known
as “the compassionate”.
But why?
For this::
Not only did he see
with overwhelming empathy
Man’s dire need to be
released from fated suffering
but kindly taught “him” how
this could be done
successfully.
and thereby caused
his being praised,
extolled, and justly so,
by high and low
as one
who was (and is)
deserving to be loved.
as “the compassionate”.

Beauty and Bewilderment
The most intense landscape
swallowed in the sweltering sun,
the desert screams in silence.
Sandstorms sprouting and small houses in the distance,
this land of dust and heat demands the strongest will to survive.
On this path you will meet the kindest and most resilient of beings
seeing life from an ancient but timeless perspective.
Determined and confident in each moment of uncertainty
is what you must be in this most unforgiving of environments.
Surrounding mountains sheltered in the shade of the clouds.
Beyond the brutality...

Deserts
I've been waiting for you for hours and hours
then I spiked my horse with spurs
and disappeared into the radiance of the desert...
sand on shoulders will measure my time
sand lying on itself naked
the hourglass of the crystal in your eyes
horse of fire trampling the ground
aimless rider from pain in the hands
desert pain in flowers without buds
sand in a storm hurting the eyes
dry tears streak lost appeal
I don't know about you and where are you lurking
the compass rose has lost the north

The Fujyiama's sunset
The sunset over the Fujiyama
speaks of abandonment,
but a wanderer weeps on his tatami.
Dance in kimono's delight.
The wind shines like heaven's volcanoes.
The morning Hibachi for virtuous water.
The desert's montain!
The body aches for red velvet kimono
as in the night of dream's agony.
The wind is a luscious Hibachi.
The desert's rapture dew drops.
The night shines like no moon.
