Poems about Death
#death
The broad subject of death, including grief and memorial poems when losing a loved one. Also concepts around death in wider society, fear of dying and what happens after we die. These poems may be dark and full of sorrow.
.
BEREAVEMENT
Dear All,
You may be seeing less of me during this week. I have just heard from my sister that our mother died last night aged 92. I welcome anyone's prayers as it has also come at a time when I am planning for retirement in June and was copying over some of my poems pre the site closing. We will have funeral arrangements to deal with. God bless you all.

Your husband was murdered by a fish
In July 2022, a Canadian man was killed by the fish he was trying to catch. The fish latched onto the fishing pole and fought ferociously for control of it. The man lost his balance, fell into the water & drowned. Police described the fish as "ordinary".

buried in clouds
One day my heart will have its final beat
Many, many years from now
And I wonder who I will go searching for first
I would assume it would be the one who helped conceive me
And confront the cowardly man in the sky who stole the father from an innocent daughter
Or maybe I’ll be too afraid to confront that
And it will be the one I thought I was in love with
To ask him one more time if he actually thought I was beautiful
Unless I’m too afraid to hear his answer and I decide to talk rock and roll with Kurt Cobain
I could also choose to have a...

It's never good bye
When we die it doesn't mean that you will not be forgotten, but you will always be remembered in the heart and mind. For sure we may feel that what we have to learn is a another lesson about life. For it's true know one lives forever as that is what is life, for sure we have to be strong enough to be able to carry the weight of the world upon our shoulders. For it's that attitude you have to adjust with your thoughts, on what is happening in our lives that will affect us in so many ways sometimes. For sure it's necessary to understand that it's not over when you lose, it's over when you QUITE...

No deposit, No return
Psychopathic killer out on the street
Killing for pleasure is what feeds his needs
In the name of his leader he does his crime
You'll never hide, there is no more time
You can't control your muscles or brain
The gas controls you, driving you insane
Now you're moving spastically around
Your legs can't bear you, you're falling to the ground
Your eyes are burning in your head
Spontaneous diarrhea is what you get
Blood is flowing out of your ear
There is no hope, the end is near
Chemical gas is his favorite game ...

Dying Alone
I've had a lot of friends in my life
But somehow I've lost them all
I've pissed it all away
Made people leave even while I loved them
Forced them to go with my behaviour
Or my words
Some things take an entire lifetime to finally regret
Now
In my dying days
When I should have all my friends around me
To laugh about all the old times
I'm alone
And simply weep for my own actions
And words
Living alone may be lonely
But just try dying that way
It'll break your fucking heart
But somehow I've lost them all
I've pissed it all away
Made people leave even while I loved them
Forced them to go with my behaviour
Or my words
Some things take an entire lifetime to finally regret
Now
In my dying days

Not Really a Poem, so to Speak
i am already hating THIS YEAR, 2025
My Mom dies Monday morning, 10 MAR 25,
BUT i got a text, she went peacefully
a pseudonym for dying in one's sleep?
AND now informed this same week,
DUP has been on an intravenous lifeline
to no avail.
& on top of all of this, a Veteran neighbor caught wind of my Mom's demise
and is worried about suicide.
i am determined to get through APRIL'S NaPo
after all,
i still have to write out my Grief and process the tumultuous other array of feelings
bombarding me,

Without Music the World Dies
Each Auld Lang Sin
drinking to the absent,
one day, my dears,
your glasses will be empty
An urn awaiting our turn
may the ashes lie as stubble
on the statues of great people
Strumming until the drumming
became the faint rhythm of dying dreams,
emotional air-raids exhausted our hearts
until, finally, someone shot our plane from the sky
drinking to the absent,
one day, my dears,
your glasses will be empty
An urn awaiting our turn
may the ashes lie as stubble
on the statues of great people
Strumming until the drumming
became the faint rhythm of dying dreams,
emotional air-raids exhausted our hearts
until, finally, someone shot our plane from the sky

The Silence of Running Water
We built a mountain
out of dust
dry skin on old bones
and hollowed-out eyes
drinking from the crack in the glass.
The rivers ran backward,
spitting out promises
that tasted like iron.
Feet,
footprints carved into gravel,
burning with the weight of a thousand forgotten years
we ran like shadows chasing the sun
but the light never reached us,
just slipped away
into the cracks of our teeth
and disappeared into the sky
that never looked down.
I saw the rain dance,
but it wasn’t real.
It was...
out of dust
dry skin on old bones
and hollowed-out eyes
drinking from the crack in the glass.
The rivers ran backward,
spitting out promises
that tasted like iron.
Feet,
footprints carved into gravel,
burning with the weight of a thousand forgotten years

The End is Near
Let's Read, Dear Friend—The End Is Near
Savour the flavour of these moments as sand spins through lost time
Oh can it be, oh dear poets the end is near,
the walls of our sanctuary crumble,
our words like echoes in an empty hall.
Like birds without a perch, we scatter,
like fish without water, gasping,
adrift in the deserts of lost verses.
Who will find the lost as they scatter?
Where will the blossoms new take root?
Poetry drifts, seeking soil, seeking sky, seeking eternal existences
Strange...
