POWER OF UNITY
For sure we all can remember a time in each of our lives 🥰 when we use to connect on so many ways of subconscious, thoughts on the things that truly matter to us as family and friends. But yet it's changed from the deepness into negativity, of what was created by those before us, when we weren't even born into the world 🌍 For sure as I keep those thoughts as motions, pictures of images of good times with the elders, of the truth seekers of our family roots. I remember so many stories about the deepness of the truth, there was a time when we had laugh together and moments when...

New Year Baby
Life can bring you so much joy…
At unexpected times
In unexpected places
It can certainly turn your life around
And bring happiness with tiny little faces
It was five minutes into the New Year
When my granddaughter came into the world
It was so quick, so sudden
What a way to start 2024
And when I held her in my arms
I stared at her angelic face
Little Luna, we’re over moon
Our little star is filled with grace
Today for the first time
I called my daughter momma

be the fire
in the early hours of morning
as dawn warmed the darkened sky
I stood transfixed
when a single star flashed brightly
lighting up a fading night
leaving me deeply moved
thoughts whispering softly
stirring in my mind
what would I say to you
if this was my last day
what wishes would I cast your way
what images would I press into your upturned palms
kissing & imbuing them with all my hopes
infusing your dreams
willing them into being
and then it occurred to me
I don't want you reading an unsent...

Candace Queen a light in a dark world
oppression is real
you can feel the weight of it on your soul
some bear the pain of this day and out
they walk on like soldiers
fighting a war most people don't see
poverty teaches you how to be grateful
for the most basic things
like a bed to sleep in
or food to eat
warm clothes
some go into battle without any of these things
these warriors navigate the world fiercely
that their souls can war with these demons
is nothing short of amazing to me
I was in the city only three days
a concrete hell...

the storm I created
she broke into this world
a storm wrapped in pink blankets
the daughter that borrowed my eyes
my temper
my frown
my tendency to stand
at the edge of shadows
what else could we do but spark?
squarin up over nothin and everythin
we catch fire the same way
quiet and hot
both refusin to bend or break
same flush in our cheeks
I still see her as four
hands on her hips
determination set
in the corners of her mouth
small voice deliverin judgement
speakin fluently in...

Hopscotch Lines
A long haired girl
with a light blue dress
jumps across hopscotch'd lines.
Every bound blinds me
as I lose her, in the sky
Then, clouds ground her
Grey turns the day
As upon the tin roof
begin the taps
of the drumming rain
With that steady beat
we dance upon the concrete porch
With seven colors of chalk
strewn across its slate.
I marvel, at how
little girls build their worlds
in primarily bright shades
Seven sides then, to this day
Born into a rainy life
As...

Plans
Write about making plans,” she said,
and I laughed –
“oh honey, you know I suck at that!”
and she smiles, “exactly…”
This girl understands my poetry.
How it’s always all about the anguish
of making elaborate plans
that I’m not equipped to execute
and perceiving beauty
that I’ll never be able to hold.
How I can languish in the heartache
of imagined futures and friendships and feats
that I am powerless to actualize
and how,
despite the apparent misery,
I still choose this stubborn...

All Grown Up
The first time I held you in my arms
you were so tiny
Now youre ready to rule the world
A senior...
My 1st born
All grown up
17 years have flown by...
we ordered your dress for your last homecomimg
we have booked the pics for this special senior year
hair, makeup, Vans and instruments
Marching Band geeks unite!
We will walk through fire to make sure this year is the best
covid can take a sidecar
nothing will ruin this for you, sweet daughter of ours
you deserve the best
Our baby they said wed never...

rules for childhood
avoid putting your toys
away
-or-
taking a bath, bedtime
and doing your homework
play as much as you can
doodle endlessly
laugh and giggle
incessantly
say no to your parents
often
pout well and ask for
forgiveness later
imagine constantly
refuse your veggies
candy is always better
live in the moment
live for today...
tomorrow is too far
away
ask for this, ask for
that
want way too much ...

A Mother Grieves
A Mother Grieves
dark angel consumed by goth fires of grief
Hidden deep in the camouflage
Of a searing brand
That burns the forever
Of perdition’s flames
Where her daughter’s casket lies
Heaped under Mom’s earthy tears
That rage against cruel fate
Of drunken murder on that highway
That swallowed her dreams
Like Jonah’s whale
But burning flesh
And petroleum fumes
The embalming of deathly silence
In mother’s heart lost to the quiet
When unholy mantras fill the night
With the wail of a...
