I had to sub a Sophomore Lit class
when the professor was out
with COVID
And my inner literary snob
screamed a thousand
deaths when the 20-year-old zygotes
romanticized about
Romeo and Juliet.
I smiled and fluttered
my eyelashes
and smashed those
cute little bitches
who thought they
invented thought
with actual arrogance.

The tongues of fire
In bones and dust
An empire rotting
Bent steel and rust
The fall of kingdoms
Cold march of time
The age of reason
Still wonders why
Smoke and ashes…
I’ve seen the future in ashes
The world eaten by the sun
Watched my family turn to dust
Where the rivers used to run
I’ve seen the end of history
The world is just a dream
Passing through the dark of time
No matter how I scream
Not even a memory…
In bones and dust

Nothing left to be said

They have outran their purpose
There will be nothing left but silence
A silence that shall remain forever
No feelings left whatsoever
I will drown in my chosen solitude
Courtesy of my simplistic existence
Light no longer exists in my world
Darkness is all I now live for
