When Black Means Gold (Hail, Simone)
Subdued greatness awaiting, in her poise.
Siloed stillness, that shuts out all the noise.
She takes a breath, & moves in strides.
Arms spreading like dusk, fists pumping, at her sides.
Her ignighted frame begins, in it's rise,
An ecliptic moon, over Paris skies.
Her every movement, a sudden of flips.
We witness the beauty of La Chapelle's eclipse.
Up there, she dances quick, in peerless flight.
Elegance that spins, skin like the night.
She comes back down, in a meteoric landing.

If I Were An African King
If I were an African King,
The Malika's of my dreams.
Wearing dresses, with princess seams.
Deprived not, of a lavish thing.
If I were an African King.
Mwezi lit nights, with flesh that screams.
Thirts that flow, as The Lopori streams.
With all the spark my upanga can bring.
If I were an African King.
Smiles that shine, like The Namib beams.
Their trees "give on" as the tongue reams.
Upon their lips, my name that they'd sing.
If I were an African King

Creole Negra
Creole woman.
She’s like sugar and spice,
Made up of everything naughty
and red beans and rice.
If you think about pursuing her,
I hope that you can dance.
Because if you can’t zydeco baby,
you haven’t got a chance.
She’s a beauty of mixed culture,
she speaks a little spanish,
a little french too.
But tread carefully,
cos she might know voodoo.
She knows a lot of tricks in bed,
she sucks more than just crawfish heads.
She can burn in the kitchen!
That means she can cook,

i am not alone, alone
i am
not alone,
alone, there
are some
like me
out there,
they wait,
they watch,
they hope,
each arrive
in the
afternoon,
and before
the light
is slanting,
my mouth
like doors
open,
let me
read you
something,
they let
me speak,
they accept
me with
the softest
care,
my words
float
over them,
and they
act as
trying
to capture
butterflies
while
clapping.
