just as I know the finch
by its scalloped flight
I know the tiny figure
at the top of the butte
while I shrink
at the bottom further
evidence comes to light
besides me the giant shadow lies
detached and records
the sun’s carom is imminent
the ledger is deleted by this dark
overhanging profile behind you
by its scalloped flight
I know the tiny figure
at the top of the butte
while I shrink
at the bottom further

A MAN TO HOLD
Our reality forbade me from kissing your lips
And stroking your hair with my fingertips.
All I could do was hold your hand
When I traveled the distance to a different land
Just to see you for a quick little hour
And I gladly took that power.
How I longed to know how you kissed
And a touch of a man, oh how I missed.
How much it pained me, you have no clue,
To not be able to cuddle up with you.
Sitting across from you, my mind slowly would drift away
And all we had for memories were conversations from day to day.

The time is a rashness of seventeen or El Salvador I love you as a country
Your padre had a massage table
set up in the middle of the den
full of rolling r’s. Your friends
who were girls or the other way
scooted around it bee-lined
to the stove for the beans and rice.
Flowering only for the madre.
I used to be much more
bold, poor little ferret. Tossing white fur
through the air onto your dreaming face.
Arms around not me.
I’d want to apologize
to it, getting the wily messenger
involved and all. That...

Cheers To A New Year
I left the door wide open
Hoping we could make amends
Giving time...to see if you’d come back
Perhaps not as what we once shared
But perhaps a distant acquaintance or friend.
I longed for your return
Waited through the passing of days and flipping of months
To embrace your return.
I had so much to share with you
So much to tell with little time
I reached out a couple times
Hoping you’d walk through my opened doors.
But you would have rathered kept the nonsense
The meaningless excuse for anger ...
Hoping we could make amends
Giving time...to see if you’d come back
Perhaps not as what we once shared
But perhaps a distant acquaintance or friend.

Bitter Harvest
As I take a bite from this fruit
the flavor is blatantly ash.
Left with a craving on my tongue.
No, I could not hold back the tears.
I have nothing, yet you take more.
And you hate when I start to weep
because it makes you uneasy.
I wish I could just disappear.
So, what are we cultivating?
Seems we only tend when we clash.
And I never get enough sleep
as I constantly live in fear.
I worry about the backlash
of what you sowed as I will reap.

Backwoods Love
Loving you was harder then it seemed.
Up at night, due to broken dreams.
Puppet Master, you loved pulling strings.
When all you had to do was just believe.
We had a future, I handed you the keys.
Country living, just like you asked to be.
I was your king, and you were my queen.
But that Wile E Coyote, would always get in between.
On my knees, begging for you to see.
But you and God had other plans unfortunately.

Reverberation
Frostbitten fingers reach, strangling my breaths.
You love watching my dilemma unfold.
My temperature rises as I approach death.
Your hand smolders, and you release your hold.
Chaos awoken; I can hear the riots.
The battle scars have taken their toll.
The sky turns grey, blanketing me with quiet.
There is a relief that settles my soul.
The breeze caresses me with a whisper
that reverberates within my chest
only to become gnawing, pained purrs
that grow into growls within my breast.
I rise, staring; my rage strikes...

And We Clashed
The warmth of my wrath
collides with his cold aura.
Creating a storm.

Muted No
"say it!"
"no!"
a wail from within screamed,
"yes"
was all my voice could emit.

visiting my father
Visiting my father
I met my brother in the town where he was
on his way to see our father and wanted
me to tag along
He, our dad, lived in an old house and
surprised to see his youngest son also
He brought beer from the kitchen and
my brother and he spoke about labor
politics
I was at the time a communist and had
contempt for those not sharing my faith
After all, I had spent several days at
a hospital in Odessa, where doctors wore
tall white hats, a chef would envy
My father avoided looking my way
I sat...
