Life Is Like A Saveloy!
in my late 30's, i returned to education, having left school at the age of 15, after attending 14 different schools, the first two in Holland. i did my degree joint hons EngLit/History, but i'd been told by head of Sociology, that i would of been perfect for a Youth in the Community degree. but i lived in N. Wales, had no transport, with a limited bus service4 from my village, it was a miracle that i managed to get to uni, never mind a regular career. i did the degree, squeezed out a 3rd, and had no idea what career path to go for. there was a test, a few hours, to determine what career would...

I Was 18 and Stoned, Okay?
What do the stars mean?
Absolute realization of one's aliveness.
The wind is a cool silver stream
She could stand still and live the pinnacle of happiness.
But up ahead, he is the ocean,
Can she, just once, dive off the moon
and jump into him,
his entirety
which surely would welcome her
with ecstasy, not obstacles?
Alive, alive, alive
The silver wind blows
The midnight mountain is a treadmill
They walk without concern
A rustle in the trees
Piqued curiosity meets opportunity
...

I was in the city of Chicago during the beginning of college to find the best college that had the best spirit when it came to welcoming their new students.

A Daughter Drifting
In the quiet of her daughter’s bedroom, she sat with shades drawn.
Looking down at her hands she questioned God.
How does a treasure, so fiercely guarded, slip through open fingers?
The lips of my child that once whispered prayers at this bedside
now give pleasure to the unworthy. How can flesh of my flesh
yield with such ease to the fickle dance of an adolescent boy’s desire?
What were her prayers at the moment of his coming? Were they
prayers for grace or of thanksgiving?
Did she feel pleasure or sadness?

I don’t want to ever wake up
Because it’s warm in here
And it’s cold out there,
But don’t look into my eyes
Or you might get scared
Because the truth of what’s out there
Is hidden here
The cold of the core
And the vibes that we store
Are what reminds us that there’s a room

But here in the good
God answers our prayers

The Value of Self Knowledge
As I apply for a scholarship
To pay the intuition
For a well established
State Institution,
I’m reminded by a puff of smoke
Entering the hippocampus
That such thoughts
Must share a dorm
Meant for dueling patience.
Majoring in substance abuse,
Your councilor suggests
Laying off the hard stuff.
Bit on the nose
But you take her advice
Trading DSM-5 for
An anonymous substitute.
“Study for your UA?”
Balked the TA.
“Not Today,”
‘S what I’d say
If I hadn’t flunked out
Twice already – ...
