Little Girl With A Purpose
I see that little girl everyday
She always runs to wherever she's going
Xmas came and left her with a bike
Now she rides up & down the street
It seems she never gets tired
She always plays by herself
I saw her the other day standing with her bike next to all these other kids who were much older than she
She wasn't even paying attention to them
She was standing there because they were
The older ones were smoking and talking a bunch of loud mouthed shit
All at once she got on her bike and sped away like she had some important place to be ...

Boys
The boys push the blind man down the escalator
The boys steal the money out of the guitar player's hat
The boys tease the crippled man
The boys kick the junkie
The boys beat on anybody and anyone that looks different to them
The boys are well respected in their community
The boys call the cops when their bikes were stolen...By the other boys

sparkly unicorn boy
I'm the mother
of a sparkly unicorn child
most days he wakes up
with a giggle on his lips
and asks for tickles
He dresses
like a rainbow exploded
and fell into the shape of clothes
over his body
I don't always tell everyone
he's a boy
so if they make gender assumptions
I generally let it slide
I don't know what opinion
a random Uber driver
or parent at the park
might have about
a sparkly unicorn boy
and how their own biases
might fight to dim his spark
Even...

Over the Mon
I’m absolutely over the mo⁰n for her
The way she looks at me she makes me smi)e
And though time flies by quickly all around us
My heart is happy I got to see my grandchild
Luna makes me wonder about who she’ll be
Which roads she’ll take to reach her destination
What she’ll discover about herself in her journey
Where she will find her fire and motivation
Moonshine’s eyes are like the stars in the sky
They make you wonder how far she’ll go
Because the future belongs to her, to them
The promising hopeful generation of...

John Doe
John Doe was the name given to the bits & pieces of a man who was murdered and scattered throughout Detroit in the summer of 1995. The first part of him to turn up was his bloody naked torso. It rolled down a conveyor belt at a paper recycling plant, much to the horror of Ader Titsoff. A few days later, a volunteer at a Detroit Church noticed flies buzzing around a trash bag. Inside was John's head. The rest of him was eventually discovered at a children's playground. One girl named Anita Bath discovered the grizzly remains one late summer morning. All that was left was a thigh bone, a...

Saturday Morning
I looked out my front door
On the other side of the street
I saw a man open up his trunk
He yelled for his kid in the house
The kid came outside, and to his joy there was a puppy dog wagging it's tail
The child who was no more then 5, lost his balance when the puppy jumped on him
The kid fell to the ground and on his ass
The dog was licking and nibbling the boy until he got a taste of the kids mouth and bit the kid's lip right off
Must have tasted the chocolate chip cookies the kid was eating while outside
There was screaming and blood everywhere...

To My Two Little Kings
I know you wonder.
I know you ask, in whispers or in silence,
"Why did Mama leave?"
"Why couldn’t she take us too?"
Let me tell you, my loves...I never left you.
I just had to find a way to live.
Seventeen years, I fought.
Fought for love, for family, for a home
that no longer held me.
The walls got too tight,
the air too thin,
and if I stayed, I would have disappeared.
And what good is a mother who is only a shadow?
I left you with him...not because I wanted to,
but because I had to trust the man ...

one of those days (parenting edition)
It's been one of those mornings
where my kiddo wants to throw down
over every little thing
And like every other bad day
the only cure
is silliness
We've had tickle cuddles
played the "where's your beautiful face?"
version of peek-a-boo
and made fairy bread for breakfast
because if sugar doesn't cure grumpiness
it shouldn't exist
My parental nerves are frayed
and I really shouldn't be drinking
a third cup of coffee
but in the absence of any real
mind altering substance ...

a little bit of magick
My son begged me
to buy him a wand
and was so disappointed
when he realised
he couldn't do real magic
he tried to turn me
invisible
and it obviously didn't work
It didn't stop him from trying
various spells
for three days
as I tried to explain
that pretend is fine
while offering him
a different kind of magic
waving the wand over his head
and proclaiming
that "buddy, is beautiful and clever"
and asking him if that spell
made feel beautiful and clever
and...

Happy Born Day
Letter to my first
I unleashed you
into the world
with the snip of a natal chord
With tenacity we fell
in love at first sight
even then I knew this world
thru me was yours
Three played together
as I watched you
grow strong
from a feeble introduction
To hold your head high
looking up to me
a child-father
no prerequisite nor question
Seems I did the teaching
but truth is
I learned myself
in sacrifice thru you
Re-lived from first step
to remove training wheels ...
