heard that
all dogs
go to
heaven,
i even
watched
the animated
movie,
wouldn't it
seem fair
to know

cat people tend to be the butt of jokes
you know the old saying...
...crazy cat lady...guilty as charged
let me tell you something though
these ladies saved me
when we entered isolation status
they were my only companions
my motivation to keep moving
Bella is the eldest...rolling into her 16th year
just starting to show signs of dementia
leaving the room & crying...as if to say
I can't remember where I left ya
she always calms when I call out
you'd never know it now...
but in her youth...

Three eighteen PM, I could have sworn
I saw with heightened awareness
a Ghost Cat traverse across the floor
I said,
“ If that’s You, Kitty, You’re going to make me cry. “
Maybe She rode in on
zephyrs furiously
flit and flying about outside
I remember………..
She used to hop on my lap
when I had a long tearful bout
Her purring would snap me out
We would sit quietly
for hours after
in the dark
My face now super wet
saline leaking from
corneal...

Willow
A woman made of tree roots and wire
absent of life within her mind
no willow in her rooted skirt
she tips a glass unfilled with dark red wine
while feeding her imaginary flowers
so beautifully divine
from a woven watering can
flowing with invisible watery dreams
her heart without any deep desires
a cat of concrete by her side
non-living amongst the cedar trees
at the top of a snow-covered mountain
that kisses a bright blue sky.

it tiptoed through my mind, a whisper among noise;
a small font
among quaking bolded neurotic monoliths
imagine the terrible
it's safer,
but still
the noise
the constant noise
an unwanted rerun
annoying in its frenetic, persistent flickering
muted volume a euphemism
what the hell was I to do with this cat I'd rescued
intending to keep it a week at most
phone calls, social media posts, emails
she was so deserving
but unwanted
turned away

Doing the Right Thing
A stray cat wandering
I picked it up
it seemed to weigh ounces
It nuzzled against my neck and purred
It has been in my largish bedroom for five days
getting fatter
playing with the wand toy
sleeping next to me
Am I doing the right thing?
a good soul adopts a runty cat
assures the Humane Society yes, it will be indoors
but believes cats deserve to roam free in nature
gives kitty free reign
outdoors
among snakes and coyotes
is that person doing the right thing?
...
