My Frenemy From the Heartland
Oh wheat,
you stupid grain
Why are you always on my brain
Whether bagel, cracker, toast, or waffle,
you seduce and thrill
then make me feel awful
For me gluten
may not be evil as Putin
-I'm not a Celiac-
but in cravings I drown
you just slow me down
I'm sick of this monkey on my back
Oh wheat,
you're a ruthless boss
You're in frozen foods, beer,
even soy sauce
I'm stronger than you
At least I want to be
but every day
you keep stalking me
you stupid grain
