In ignorance
I carry her torch
That lights
Burns
For her love
Her touch
Would violate
The loneliness
In this soul
So empty
The abiding trust
Eclipses any fear
Of inadequacy
Worth
In the love evolving
Slave
To my heart
That influences
These emotions
Raging
I fight
Over and over
To hide
This emphatic sense
To love more
Yet to feel
This reverence
That fills me
I need
More than ever

So...
When our souls become broken…
our selves tossed away…by a slip or a fall...or a roll in the hay…
you'll know if it serves Nature's purpose…
She'll give nary a tinker's dam
if you go or if you stay…
...unless, of course, it suits her plan…to send you on your way...
So...we must search our missing ...bits…
stitch our whole selves back together
to discover...who we're meant to be…
...and then...
go out and find our places
...on the chessboard of life?
…hmmm...
It's gonna be another long day, eh?

The Losing
The losing is the longest wait,
The finding is immediate, unexpected,
The gone a mere eye blink and done,
No, it is the losing that robs the heart.
The slow decay of affections,
The longer spaces between calls,
The attention ever diverted elsewhere,
The smiles directed beyond you, not to you.
The losing is a slow burn on the spirit,
An excruciating draw of energy,
The effervescent hope unwilling to die,
The crushing pain of unrequited love.
It is the losing that provides the physical pain,
The frostbite chill...

He spied her in the crowded bar,
A local haunt for regulars,
The pregame, postgame, game time refuge.
In a rolling sea of moving bodies,
Voices crashed and chased each other in crescendo,
She remained still, quiet, ethereal.
She does not belong here.
That was his first lucid thought through an alcohol induced haze.
What is she doing here?
For her part, she sat peacefully, hands atop the bar,
Her auburn locks fell full and loose,
A cascade of fire tumbling over pale shoulders.
He approached, straightening...
