Love is a Dagger
Despite all of its swagger
love is a dagger
with a short, sharp blade
to hide the wound it has made
I know you do see me
while you wander ever free
dancing with every new skirt
teasing again with each flirt
While I remain to do my duty
an imperiled helpless beauty
tied by a gold wedding band
longing for the touch of your hand
For a man who lives by the poem
loves to let his fingers then roam
dip them deep in my secret most place
bring a full blush to my regal face

Speaking In Tongues
A crow came to cackle and I ignored what he had to say
Two more came and I quickly turned the other way
Time passed ... worlds and minds changed ... stars aligned
Now 30 more were alit at my door begging I heed their signs
Is the spell ending?
Or another beginning?
I feel weak and used
Too tired for thinking
To cast my dice carelessly in open air?
To lay my head down upon your soft breast?
To find peace in the scent of your silken hair?
To find my heart beating once more in my aching chest?

Echoing
Isn't that how it sadly goes
a true ache always echoes
with no one to hear

Love Poem
It seems to be my truth
that my life is truly
just this way
whether night or day
perfectly aligned words
arranged in their lines
locked in their stanzas
dolled up with rhyme
prettied for all time
meant only to be read
when I am an open book
that my life is truly
just this way
whether night or day
perfectly aligned words
arranged in their lines
locked in their stanzas
dolled up with rhyme
prettied for all time
meant only to be read
when I am an open book

Venus
You rise up to greet me
remind me
that I am truly not alone
in these darkest hours
Hanging in the sky
making me ask why
beauty is wedded
to her solitude
Whether in a tower
or adrift at sea
you reconvince me
of this eternal truth
True since my youth
that love only flits
all about me
lighting on my shoulder
But now that I am older
I do now understand
both the wave and the sand
how brief their daily kiss
remind me
that I am truly not alone
in these darkest hours
Hanging in the sky
making me ask why
beauty is wedded
to her solitude
Whether in a tower
or adrift at sea
you reconvince me
of this eternal truth
True since my youth

all about me

Loneliness
Loneliness is its own dark shade
a keen, quick blade
that cuts at the longing heart
when it is all over before its start
As romantic hopes and dreams
drown in these poetic streams
mired in a most beautiful ink
but always destined to then sink
Yet I want to believe in the game
find Love some other gentler name
dodge all of these thorny roses
with the bittersweet wager each proposes
Stop...

that cuts at the longing heart
when it is all over before its start
As romantic hopes and dreams
drown in these poetic streams
mired in a most beautiful ink
but always destined to then sink
Yet I want to believe in the game

with the bittersweet wager each proposes

Scent
Funny how a lingering scent
leaves a trace of love spent
on something that cannot be bought

Resonance
Funny how a lonely heart
still beats
still repeats
its own soft message
Out into the void
into the chilled air
how it once did care
about everything love
From the first long
longing look
how quick it took
to fall so fast
How it did not last
did not remain
just this sad refrain
echoing on and on
Now that you are gone
while I am still here
this ache does reappear
with its melancholy resonance
still beats
still repeats
its own soft message
Out into the void
into the chilled air
how it once did care
about everything love
From the first long
longing look
how quick it took
to fall so fast
How it did not last
did not remain
just this sad refrain
echoing on and on
Now that you are gone
while I am still here
this ache does reappear
with its melancholy resonance

Your Sun
You say I am your very
sun
lighting your dawn
warming your day
Rising in your East
giving you direction
setting the four corners
of your compass
Yet kept at arm's length
on my narrow balcony
like my very own
columned pedestal
A pretty little prize
just meant to rise
to be adorned
be adored
Till it is again time
to go on down
put away so tight
in this darkness of the night
sun
lighting your dawn
warming your day
Rising in your East
giving you direction
setting the four corners
of your compass
Yet kept at arm's length
on my narrow balcony
like my very own

A pretty little prize

I Read You
I read you
in every line you write
how you fill the page
to quell your rage
with each line so divine
a poetic heartbeat
a whisper of your soul
as our spirits do brush
but
will you
ever
truly
read ... me
in every line you write
how you fill the page
to quell your rage
with each line so divine
a poetic heartbeat
a whisper of your soul
as our spirits do brush
but
will you
ever
truly
read ... me

Discarded
I sit alone again
sadly comfortable
here ...
in this frozen moment
Imagining
desiring
all that eludes
all that deludes
Love
or at least its
memory
haunts with a chill
Recalling the thrill
of hand in hand
of lips on lips
of total entwinement
But now even poetry
with all of its power
all of its melodic magic
dins so ever hollow
sadly comfortable
here ...
in this frozen moment
Imagining
desiring
all that eludes
all that deludes
Love
or at least its
memory
haunts with a chill
Recalling the thrill
of hand in hand
of lips on lips
of total entwinement
