Solely - NaPoWriMo2023 #4
Alone,
solitary,
Is not such a bad thing really,
gives some
personal
space to think and reflect.
Rather than rushing
to join the rat race of requirements.
Because if things
do go all pear shaped
and trouble's in paradise
over a few wrong unsweet words,
there is always
square one
waiting
because you can't take
your loved ones with you,
or so I've heard;
citation needed,
lesson unheeded and heart still open.

Wally World
Walternate Universe FFU28-4
On the fourth night of my secret epic parallel universe travel
TOTO sent me to a world where I’d been a successful writer
“Be careful” he said as the lines across his monitor face frowned
“Here you are very cunning, so this mission may be an all nighter”
“What’s the deal with him, why am I coming here?’ I asked
“For a while he’s been going through a bout of depression
In his latest book he’ll subliminally write a chapter on suicide
And many of his readers will kill themselves over their obsession”

No logical idea WHY
i still love You . . .
Because you LEFT me
back when I sooooo
wanted to move
give up my
United States Citizenship
on the ledge, on the brink

You called our union OFF
Was it something i said?
Your Bestie told me
i took too long
Never neither knew
nor realized
there was a timeline
dated with secret gossip
AND stupid innuendos!!

BLEAK
this hole
behind the sternum
that beats
like a heart
and moves
blood,
thick and rancid
one slow beat,
then another
a cold
drizzle
shivering
in its icy skin,
the sun,
that bright savior,
good as dead
under his
damp shroud
and me,
so tiny
in myself,
i am barely
a whisper
lost in
thought,
drunk
on sadness
knowing
better
oddly
ashamed

Play it Again... - NaPoWriMo2023 #5
Earworms are at it again
chirping away in my head
long
long
after the song stopped,
still,
not a bad tune
come to think of it
and only it.
But loses a
bit of the charm
the tenth time
round
even with
fallible memory altering the tune
and adding notes
that were not there before.
Once more round the head
to see it out,
until the next earworm
whispers in my ears
to echo in my mind for aeons to come.

Fifty Word Poem
I'm trying to write another fifty-word poem.
Father Time's fighting me, but this is gonna show him.
Before all those unique words, it's absolutely vital
that I add each daily number and an emboldened title;
include something witty, then once that's been said,
post my creativity on the NaPoWriMo thread.

the big (broken) picture
i notice, we are
two lost souls
tangled in our own
alone
grayscale world
we rip out pages
wish to cry at songs
but our tears fall for the wrong things
it hurts
i didn’t mean it
no
never meant anything
i do not believe you did, either
for sooner or later, it’ll all unfold
not like a flower poses petals
for an enticing sun
more like cliffside’s dangerous edge
erosion, followed by
landslide
i ask myself what will become of us
in our destruction
amongst the rubble? ...

Oh no, help, it’s happening again
The day got away, and it’s way past ten
I’m trying to think of things to write
But my brain says, “time to sleep! It’s night!”
The rain on the window sounds so harmonic
It’s making me feel rather catatonic
Before my eyelids come down like a curtain
I need fifty words; of that I’m certain
So out of my big bag of tricks, I obtain
A bulging thesaurus to help out my brain
Then rhyme dictionary; my other great tool
To find those accents that make it sound cool
I poke and I prod, and scribble and stress ...

“TOTO I’m tired, I’m sleepy and my feet hurt” I told my handler
“That’s on you” he said “you’ve been up for over a day and a half
You can have a couple of hours of rest here because in the morning
You are going to save the livelihood of your friends and staff”
As I walked through the dimly hallway past many other stations
Portals opened up as other people traveled in between realms
TOTO took me to a breakroom for those tired and weary travelers

Test of Faith
It's day twelve of Ramadhan
The sun is blazing
Even at this hour
I can feel pangs of hunger
From fasting
My body feels weak
But my will is strong
Only an hour and a half is left
Before Iftar
The past eleven days were fine
It rained almost every day
That makes fasting more easy
Because of the cool weather
Today is different
I can almost feel the heat
Piercing my skin if I go out
Without an umbrella
This is a test of my faith
The sun is blazing
Even at this hour
I can feel pangs of hunger
From fasting
My body feels weak
But my will is strong
Only an hour and a half is left
Before Iftar

She Used to Mollycoddle ~

She Used to Mollycoddle ~
The first Deity born of Chaos,
She commands, entreats us
not to harm this planet
but to enjoy the bounty
employing our
sight, sound and touch
Pretty certain we were all wards
in the beginning when
mankind came into being
under Her watchful sight
No temples required
for Her forests and caves
were the place for homage
Although not on purpose,
often, when i meditate
while on a nature walk
i feel Her . . .
leas hugging my feet ...

Untitled V
Her father stepped out
into the garage, as I sat in an old
vinyl, high-back bar stool
smoking a cigarette, contemplating
my 'prodigal son' return home.
He never struck me
as being a happy man: mostly stoic
in his outward mannerism.
For two months I was a quiet
mouse, moving through
a foreign landscape of people
I didn't really know.
His daughter, my 'friend',
was a hard lesson to learn,
and looking back, her mother
wasn't really put together
upstairs, either. ...
