Prayer
God
Thank you
For this life
For giving me
Everything I need
This life I live today
Is enough, I am content
I may not have all of my wants
But I have all my needs in life met
My heart is full of gratitude to you
You always answer my call when I'm lost
Your light is always there to guide me
When I have to face the darkness
I won't be where I am now
Without you through the years
I owe you so much
I have nothing
Just my faith
In you
Lord
Thank you
For this life
For giving me
Everything I need

But I have all my needs in life met
My heart is full of gratitude to you

Cramming
I'm cramming
I keep looking at the time
It's now a quarter after eleven p.m
My twenty four hour window
Is almost over
I'm writing without any draft
My mind seems to work faster
When I'm racing with time
An old habit from my university days
It works for me this way
When I'm writing without inspiration
Lately my mind has freeze
And this NaPo has thawed the frost
That has blocked the thoughts from flowing free
Now myriads of thoughts are going on in my mind
Making me cram as I try to come up

you are a cinematographer
this half-sown
papoose
you carry me through
without assumptions.
a scent of black tape
wrapping the belly
your flat-pressed
stamen sigh
rising from an anemone cup.
I would wear
your eye to the stream
and slip through the eels
and follow its path alongside,
as it curls through into another,
to the edge of the dam where
two swans foggy in net curtain,
their three cygnets
grey in duff down,
circle
and...

Like a Tombstone
just when did it turn
black, white, and gray?
did the flowers die? did the grass wither away?
though cobblestone streets look as gloomy as the clouds above me
they can hardly hold the weight of my emptiness
grief has cast its spell
i'm talking to my shadow, and falling into the cracks i used to step over.
in my visions, the colors startle
they’re a disturbing reminder of what life was, with you beside me
they wait there and repeat
so, i dance in these fantasies
but never savor, there’s not enough time
in a blink,...

THE CYCLE OF THINGS
It was supposed to be fun
I told Nigel
With regards to the telescope
Now destined for the dump
First you shoot for the stars
Then you learn
There are missing parts
It sits neglected
Gathering rust
Like the metal cover
In the sidewalk
A thing to remark upon
Before hiking old trails
That have long since
Grown over and become
Mysterious again

It's complicated
How am I doing?
Thank you for asking.
I'm alive and well;
beyond that, it's complicated.
I can easily see
why people just say, "fine".
In fact, I lie to myself,
say that I am OK
when there are so many feelings
that I don't know where to start.
I cannot cope with the bad ones,
because they feel so much like That.
I'm unsure how to enjoy the good ones,
because they always end
and lead me back to That too.
So... I'm deeply grateful that we're all still standing;
profoundly thankful that the worst didn't happen,...

Talkin' to Myself and Feelin' Old
March was Women’s History month and April National Poetry
So I delved into my favorite songs from the past, new and old
Picked a variety of female artists and their beautiful voices
Remembering the special melodies that touched my soul
It was hard to choose with so many talented performers
Especially when music played a big part throughout the years
Each one of those meant something at each stage in my life
Cherishing fond recollections that ranged from smiles to tears
But I chose Karen’s song to be the last one on this list
Her voice...

THE THORNY PRAYERS OF LAMBS
never needed
jesus
though that
ain't what i was told
and lord knows
i lingered
at the edge of
his water
and seen him
beat down
and strung up
but, lord,
i never asked
and wouldn't of
had i seen
what they
would do
and all you
ever done
was kindness
and ain't
it just the way
when you
try so hard
but fate
lays its eye upon you
and you see your truth
plain as the sky is blue
and ain't nothing
pleasant in it
but you...

A Farewell
I’ve stopped sweeping myself
under this dirty rug.
To lay in debris day after day
is to snuff out every good thing
that I am.
I was holding on to so much
trauma that I covered myself
with prickly fibers to keep others
from coming in.
I walled off the best parts
and truly lost the essence
of my tender, sweet child.
I despaired in ever experiencing
her again, so set about a new course
that felt as though I had stretched
myself into someone else’s skin.
The fit was too tight, choking ...
under this dirty rug.

I GRIEVE LIKE I DO MANY THINGS
I grieve like I do many things
Quickly and intently
Until I realize how much of life
Is really grieving
And that is why
I can even feel at all
The happiness I stretch out
Until it threatens to pop
And be nothing
The richness of life
All clear to me
Because of the depth
Of sadness
Not only I have felt
But those that came before me
Deep pits of sorrow
Filled with now forgotten people
Rolled in and covered over
With the dirt of modern oblivion
Quickly and intently
Until I realize how much of life
Is really grieving
And that is why
I can even feel at all
The happiness I stretch out
Until it threatens to pop
And be nothing
The richness of life

RELIABLE NATURE
The only things that go as planned
Are nature
The smell of bay leaves
The feel of lambs’ ears
The energy on the wind
Reliable
Nature provides
In spite of all attempts
To bleed her
Feathers grow
The way they’re supposed to
Patterns flow
Interlocked with each other
Plants and animals
And other wild things
These are the wisest
Of our relatives
The ones
That we should listen to
Are nature

The feel of lambs’ ears
The energy on the wind

Epoch of the Assassins
Pact written across razor blade
Line in fine furtive cursive
On a scroll of the mind made
Into chaos machines
Permeating in machine
Like celestial
Shining hung among
Mental space
In constellations
Arisen
In revelations
Aligned
Behind the eyes
Like starry
Nights emerged
From clouds
Like shrouds
Veiling
In ship’s sails
Sailing
Into starry sights
Where vision
Meets
Decision
Decisively given
Electricity
Bidden hidden
