Something in My Eye
I once again cannot deny
there is something in my eye
just a single tear
one shed for every lost year
With these promises made
kept cool in the shade
of a deliberate indifference
with its ambivalent insistence
For that is how it must look
to those outside this nook
outside the sleepy glen
where I wield my pen
Since I need nothing more
than the bold life of a troubadour
penning these lines of old
yet unwilling to be undersold
Following where my heart leads
while all the while my quill...
there is something in my eye
just a single tear
one shed for every lost year
With these promises made
kept cool in the shade
of a deliberate indifference
with its ambivalent insistence
For that is how it must look
to those outside this nook
outside the sleepy glen
where I wield my pen
Since I need nothing more

Traces in the Night
I keep rereading everything you write
all of these mere traces in the night
whispers I still cannot hear
a vast distance kept ever near
Wondering who you really are
are you close or forever far
from all that I might hold
on winter nights bone cold
Could you ever love the real me
not this one you think you see
the one who cries in her ink
every time she tries to blink
The girl so easily swayed
finding herself always played
by a poet with a good rhyme
left used and discarded each time ...
all of these mere traces in the night
whispers I still cannot hear
a vast distance kept ever near
Wondering who you really are
are you close or forever far
from all that I might hold
on winter nights bone cold

Caveat Poeta
How easily we can fall
hear the siren call
of lovely love
within the sweetened verse
Almost like we rehearse
how we feel ...
how we can steal
the most castled heart
Write from the start
in ever thinning lines
each word that defines
how we want to feel
How we seem to reel
reason's very rug
given a sharp tug
as we stumble aback
Common sense fades to black
as we again lunge
fully take the plunge
into this most poetic affair
hear the siren call
of lovely love
within the sweetened verse
Almost like we rehearse
how we feel ...
how we can steal
the most castled heart
Write from the start
in ever thinning lines
each word that defines
how we want to feel
How we seem to reel
reason's very rug
given a sharp tug
as we stumble aback
Common sense fades to black
as we again lunge
fully take the plunge
into this most poetic affair

Glimmer
Sometimes I hear it
sometimes I feel it
this subtle urge
faint like a failing ember
So clear this December
after a lonely year
one endless tear
without you to hold
Usually so bold
why am I now
again finding myself
fragile as a secret
Knowing I do love
you
making this pledge anew
this pledge still silent
Unable to finally relent
to what we both know
what we both feel
this desire I conceal
sometimes I feel it
this subtle urge
faint like a failing ember
So clear this December
after a lonely year
one endless tear
without you to hold
Usually so bold
why am I now
again finding myself
fragile as a secret
Knowing I do love

making this pledge anew
this pledge still silent
Unable to finally relent
to what we both know
what we both feel
this desire I conceal

Expanse
Tell me of a place where we could both exist.
I have missed the way you feel.
Yet, in real time I do not know your touch.
Much of what I have felt is in my imagination.
We are stuck in the limitations of distance.
In an instance, I would come to you
through the vacuum of time and space.
Tell me of a place where we could both exist.

Spilling Ink
Do you share this fantasy
of me
a hushed poetic affair
lush with its literary flair
A glistening summer night
lit by violet candlelight
its soft lavender breeze
giving my flame a tease
Alone in our secluded room
while you trace the plume
across my bareness
aroused with each caress
Then whispering in my ear
the verse I long to hear
each word a tickle
each kiss a southern trickle
As you press down soft
deftly apply your craft
marooning me on the brink
till you finally...

In the End
It was not enough time.
Crime; what a harsh reality, is it not?
Taut my feelings,
dealing with this unapologetic distance.
Existence is feeling questionable.
Full of whys and what-ifs.
Cliff face diving, with my eyes closed, into love.
Shoving no parachute for safety;
free falling into what lies beneath.
Teeth waiting in shark-infested waters.
Slaughter of me is inevitable.
Pull this misfortunate together,
never meant to survive this fall.
Recall the height at which water becomes cement.
Lament nothing because you...

Fragile
It seems so fragile,
this intangible thing we share.
Or maybe it’s just that I feel
brittle
each time I encounter it.
I’m compelled to turn away
put it on a high shelf
where my clumsy hands can’t reach
to observe fondly
remotely
on days when I feel strong.
But on the other days…
I want to caress all its surfaces
perceive its smooth comfort
despite the risk of breakage and sharp corners.
Such a delicate thing,
this ethereal connection –
a vulnerable sanctuary.
