I Learned
I learned not to ask why
Futility isn’t for me anymore
I learned that 1+1 doesn’t always equal two
Sometimes it equals two ones
I learned to put lotion on my skin before I towel dry
I’m not a fish, scales are unnecessary
I learned that validation always comes at a cost
And the currency is usually too high
I learned that walking away isn’t always leaving
Sometimes people still rent space in your head if you let them
I learned that if dressing the part means I have to conform
I’d rather be naked ...

Write me a love poem
I tease you
and you tease me back
I say - I love you
and you say - I hate you
giving me a mocking smile
you cry with your heart
but not with your soul
the sadness never lasting long
and always replaced by a devilish grin
.
sunlight streaming through my mind
casting multicolored light
as rainbows playing on the walls
looking into your eyes
I that find rainbows live there too
oh how I love
this endless romance
chasing the love hiding in your heart
I am a cat chasing a laser light
...
and you tease me back

A Choice
What if you were given the choice of living
an alternate reality?
In a strange forest, a labyrinth of bark doors.
A life where your dreams are radiant diamonds seen.
Would problems crumble like twigs upon the forest floor?
Or does always exist a veil of unimagined terror's sheen.
A false peace.
Some memories refuse to easily fade, would thoughts
from the life you abandoned, permissionless, invade.
You will exist extremely haunted by
your unfulfilled deeds and unplanted seeds.
Make the life you already have hold meaning. ...

A wish fulfilled
My life is full
And my wish is fulfilled
I wished for purpose
And here it is
Every month a portion of my salary
Goes to good causes
Every month I bring my brother joy
By doing well
And I am a good friend
And I am a good poet
I admit, I set the bar low
I only have to stay employed
But even if that somehow ever goes away
I would find other ways
To fulfill my purpose
If I would fail and cause harm
Then this would simply become part of my story
It would not diminish what I have already done ...
And my wish is fulfilled

all about perspective...
let's talk about cowardice...shall we
I search all the time for answers
spend countless hours in self-reflection
it's true...I make changes
but when it comes down to it...
I struggle just to show up
frequently I...can't
my bed has a permanent indentation
in the fetal position
what kind of life is that...
living my existence like it's a cameo appearance
...barely visible
...unmemorable
walk off the scene...& poof
...forgotten
I was so afraid of rocking boats
I didn't even...

april song 24—all my ambitions
you would think not that fire born in my blood
gives me wise counsel over ill and good;
the choices that i make are sacrosanct
though, as a dreamer, i am humbly ranked.
all my ambitions ache to reach their goals,
though i must navigate fate’s deep potholes.
nor do i wish, nor do i merely hope;
for noble ends are not for those who grope,
but those who put the shoulder to the wheel,
to challenge failure for the golden seal.
i seek not praise for merely coexisting
with life’s ambiguous...
you would think not that fire born in my blood

Simply accepting fate
Is bullshit

they look at me & I can see it
instant dismissal
so casual...
glance sliding sideways
still...can't honestly say I blame them
not much visible to the naked eye
everything worth noting...is hidden
inside
let me share a little secret
never underestimate a Survivor
we may appear quite ordinary
...boring even
sitting quietly in our corners
but there's a lot going on behind the scenes
...beyond mere observation
peripherals clocking 360°
reading more than sits on the surface ...
they look at me & I can see it
