Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve
Pastel sunset shines through clouds
Pale blue sky etched with crimson
Sun sinks in fiery burst
Darkness lays across the land
Wind blows across corn fields
Train whistle blows a plaintive note
Stars sparkle on like Christmas tree lights
We lay in December chill
In dome tent
On air mattress cushion
Rain flap unneeded
Gossamer net mesh ceiling
Translucent to moonbeams
As we lie bundled beneath a wool blanket
Amongst waving tassels of corn ...
Pastel sunset shines through clouds
Pale blue sky etched with crimson
Sun sinks in fiery burst
Darkness lays across the land
Wind blows across corn fields
Train whistle blows a plaintive note
Stars sparkle on like Christmas tree lights
We lay in December chill
In dome tent
On air mattress cushion
Rain flap unneeded
Gossamer net mesh ceiling
Translucent to moonbeams
As we lie bundled beneath a wool blanket
Amongst waving tassels of corn ...

Love Divine on Christmas
More so,
Than the ornate mantel
over the roaring fireplace.
Even more so,
than unwrapping gifts
before your open hearth -
was that divine gleam
within your eye,
I love you for it.
Than the ornate mantel
over the roaring fireplace.
Even more so,
than unwrapping gifts
before your open hearth -
was that divine gleam
within your eye,
I love you for it.

Merry Yo
Hey
It's the holidays
Have a few drinks
Wear a funny hat
Get wasted
Sleep it off Christmas Day
Eggnog optional

My annual
If someone said on Christmas Eve,
"Come; see the oxen kneel,
"In the lonely barton by yonder coomb
Our childhood used to know,"
I should go with him in the gloom,
Hoping it might be so.
Thomas Hardy
I know, despite the comfort of
the hallowed tale,
there were no angels then
who came aloft
upon that ancient Christmas eve
to regions rounding Bethlehem,
and from on high
proclaimed "fear not",
to humbled men,
and spoke of swaddled wonderment
new...

Babuska's sarmale
In a snowy Romanian village, during Christmas cheer,
my Babuska spun tales, both delightful and queer.
The tradition was sarmale, a savory delight,
Cabbage wrapped treasures, cooked all through the night.
Meat and rice nestled in leaves so green,
simmered in tomato, a feast so serene.
But woven in laughter and holiday charms
were Babuska’s stories with their quirky alarms:
"Behave well, dear children, lest you wish to be seen
in the pot with the sarmale, simmering and lean."
The children would giggle, eyes...
