Don't Read Bukowski
Don’t read Bukowski,’ he told me.
‘He’ll get under your skin.
And if you’re not ready to spend most of your time in hell,
Don’t read Bukowski.’
‘I won’t,’ I said.
I didn’t even know who Bukowski was
Until he pulled out a paperback and pushed it my way.
It’d gone eleven and he’d been my best friend
For the last half hour.
He slurred a bit but was still drinking.
He said his name was Mick,
And his mates, he let me know,
Were in the kebab shop next door.
‘If you’re not ready to drink like a pro,’ he hissed, ...

Humanity
Humanity, you never had it to begin with" Charles Bukowski
They started fighting
a noble fight
assembled the citizens
told 'em
this thing
that thing
and the next
Made 'em join
social media groups
Stuck stickers on their cars
Fists in the air
in protest
Solidarity
I suppose
They aimed sights at an enemy
dared the law
Put wagers on police
rode
through streets chanting
"we will"
In solidarity
I suppose
Sold the notion
of a common enemy
of choice ...

BUKOWSKI IN HELL --A One Act Play/ THE CONCLUSION
We last left the two Hell-mates, Bukowski and Douglas, fighting each other fiercely. But the intrusion of the young poet changes things...
YOUNG POET (off stage) Hey Bukowski, I have a hot beer for you!
(BUK breaks away from DOUGLAS, the POET'S offer is like an announcement of salvation)
BUK: What's that again?
YOUNG POET (off stage)
Sounds like another crummy bar fight in San Pedro. You guys fighting over my talent? I said I have a hot beer for you--IF you listen to my new poem.
BUK: O.K. O.K. I'm listening. On with it!

BUKOWSKI IN HELL --A One Act Play
I wrote this one-act in 2002. It's never been produced and I doubt ever will be, because there's a certain moratorium by the Bukowski Estate on Bukowski related works.
This play, employing a non-realistic treatment, attempts to offer a look at some of Charles Bukowski's inner struggles and triumphs.
--candycrier
CHARACTERS:
Charles "Buk" Bukowski--Internationally famous Los Angeles poet and writer (1920-1994)
Douglas Fraser--an anti-Bukowski critic
Woman--One of Bukowski's vengeful, jealous lovers
Young Poet--A hopeless...

remembering bukowski
there sits bukowski
frayed at the edges
well thumped
dog eared
tossed around
caressed
held up
with duct tape
among the hide bound
strait jacketed stiffs
crackling with indignation.

Ode to a Dirty Old Man
Bukowski
Sat and read poetry
He also sat
When he wrote it
He was never young
Bukowski
He hit life hard
Like his father’s beltings
With German efficiency
And the lust
Of a wild Barbarian
Bukowski
Not like Hemingway
And his boorish
Macho bullshit
Nor Rumsfeld who
Also stood at his desk
Adding his Neo-Con shekels
No
Hank was his own man
He called a fuck a fuck
And a phony a phony
He looked a mess but
His conscience was neat
I...

Anxious Tangents
You look anxious:
Without feet,
Without a mouth,
Without motive to move you,
Without omission to speak.
Tranquil and easy
Is a slumber for a mind’s eye.
To be ignorant is bliss,
To harbour knowledge is resigned.
I trace your hand
With chapped lips;
Upon them both we both have stains,
As we both readily circle the drain,
We are far more eager than borrowed sticks.
Pull me out,
with clumps of hair,
Just dead cells to be refused-
We are but recycled men;
Trash and treasure reused. ...
