How the Story Was Told

Trying to help
she loaded the wheelbarrow
to the brim
and just
when the axle
was bending
she motioned it on

as if to say
her work was done
and she had made
the work
as hard
as she could
and still walk away

appearing to have only
set into motion
that least most effort
that needed to be expended
but not expanded upon
in order to say
that she was not the cause
of the heart attack

and really
it was his own inner-need
to please others
that had brought him
to his knees
clutching his chest
in an irony
of sweat
and depletion.
