Escape Paradise
My eyes are blind with regret, Everywhere I turn I see what I used to be
My scars make it impossible to forget, My wrists are the books I wrote in blood
Light up another cigarette, In the dark corners of my mind
My rage covers my eyes as a blindfold, I lie confined inside
I won’t let you be the death of me, I will rise above this darkened world
As a child I was born into death and through death I was reborn
I won’t let you be the death of me, I will put a bullet through my chest
As a man I was undone and unraveled, Through death I am complete
My legs are crippled with exhaustion, Everywhere I run I turn around and return
My hands lay useless and callused, My neck contains the scripture of my self-destruction
I escape paradise all too often, For fear of becoming complacent
I have run so long under a blackened sky, Feet to pavement, I have run out of patience
You wouldn’t save me if I handed you a knife and a shovel
As a pawn I was played and through the game I was lost
You wouldn’t save me if I handed you a rope and a sixty foot grave
As a ghost I was hidden from the world and through death I was awakened
