Runner

I got a little older,
I lost a little weight
I talked for years of running
but never left the state.
I thought by now I'd know
where I wanted to go
have a bunch of pictures
that I could someday show
to anyone who wanted to see
all the good I made of me
it's a bit tragic
to end up stationary

give a runner
a big enough hill
and they just might
stand still
x2

It's dark inside my head
no dreams playing tonight
I gave up on all those
couldn't take the fight.
It's the same way in how
nobody sees the words I write.
It's enough to make you
feel kind of like a ghost
to have no one realize
you still love them most
but don't have the courage
to ask them for a chance
to change the outcome
maybe rework their stance.
But my lips stay closed
and nobody knows...

give a runner
a big enough hill
and they just might
stand still
x2

Age isn't what I thought,
and more than death can stop
a person from living
the life they were taught
would be reachable.

give a runner
a big enough hill
and they just might
stand still
x2

give a runner a big enough hill
one day I might surprise me still.
