The shadows in the Mirror

Creaks of toes on old battered breath
Running wise and yet so lost
Scuttling through and fro
Desperate and afraid
They never let it loose
Within the cold mirrors
Staring out confused
The gruesome hunger and thirst
For a crack, a freedom’s force
To be out there with the world once more

Scratches and scratching all night
Scrabbling at cracks that’s never there
Pulling in tendrils like loose lank hair
Of promises to live and yet delayed
by curses that seals all four corners
Of the mirror where horror lives
Faced by the peace of the exorcised
All evils and wrongs contained
Within painfully made-up faces
With stretched smile so bright

The mirror within the soul reflects
The glassed corridors within the shards
Of collected crystal sand on a frame
That keeps the howlers away at bay
While emptied hosts played happy charades
The mirror stands at the end of the hall
Kept out now and all is silent
Except on some grey days
Scuttles shadows deep within
Pray, drape it in darkness then.
