The Chess Player
You manipulate the pieces
So remarkably well
You are quite practiced
It is clear and we can tell
How long have you been playing,
10 years or three?
You are, in fact, much better
Than I could ever be
I would call you “impressive”
But I would have to say no
For I would never purposely
Try to stroke your ego
Your love for the game
Is rather quite amusing
Especially since you are
So afraid of losing
But you prevail in the end
And it’s never a surprise
The skill is obviously there
We all see it in your eyes
Written about a friend of mine.
