Hallowed Treasure Chests

Are hollow treasure chests worth their weight?
I see hollow treasure chests that sit and wait
Some are neatly lined up in groups of alot
Some are isolated in desolate lots

They have holes on their sides emitting darkness darker than night
The holes were once whole and jewels shined through with light
And although they're not living they still have pane in these holes
These non-living treasure chest, do or did they ever have souls?

They have been pilfered of all worthy metal they contained
All their skillfully placed decorations have decayed
Now they get covered in graffiti, some blemish, some embellish
To the lots where these chests sit, do they embellish or blemish?

Are they chests still or merely empty boxes?
Waiting to be filled again or crushed down and demolished?
They could be called chests but there's no beating heart within
Looted and abandoned, I said they sit but aren't they standing?
