Trees in the Rain
Swaying trees,
dance in the breeze.
White skies fall to gray,
as leaves blow away.
The branches so bare,
flow without care.
When stormy winds rise,
fear lights up your eyes.
Gray clouds fade to black,
chills crawl up your back.
The candles snuff out,
howling moans become shouts.
They slide through your ears,
like sharp broken mirrors.
The shuddering gutters,
shattering shutters.
Clanking by torchlight,
all through the midnight.
Flailing around,
not without sound.
Causing a racket,
as you pull up your jacket.
The rain starts to fall,
as you run down the hall.
It flies as the wind blows,
as you latch all the windows.
The shutters all locked,
as tree trunks still rock.
Like large metronomes,
lined up by your homes.
They swing to and fro,
like a string cellos bow.
Making music at night,
that brings little ones great fright.
They brave through the storm,
till the light of the morn'.
Crests over the peak,
with bird's singing beak.
Ring though the great hall,
calming the small.
Who got through the night,
now sunny and bright.
In bright light of day,
the children will play,
as the storm floats away,
and trees cease to sway.
