Don't Go, Come Back, Go Away

I anchor myself around your ankles
my face twisted like bloody yarn
you rip yourself away at the exit

desolate I sway cradled
lost at the sea I created
seconds take hours to pass

regretful hands cover your face
you stare at the frozen ground
as you imitate a birds return

like fall welcomes the winter
I blanket my heart around you
and turn yet another cheek

carefully you spread your eggshells
I take those familiar steps
and wait seconds for your depart
