Sorrow Collected

Sorrow collected
A lifetime ago;
I was a little girl-
Skipping, skipping
Playing with rope

She followed me home
This shadow of mine
Her soul is still-
Skipping, skipping
Echoing time

Suffering shame;
Of abuses unknown
Her heart couldn’t stop-
Skipping, skipping
Wanting to go

Shelved in the closet
A Sunday school dress
And she was there-
Swinging, swinging
Finally at rest
