Lying Eyes
He looked into her eyes...
hers...filled with tears...
and his...filled with lies...
this time...
there would be no long
or sorrowful goodbyes
He was tired...
of trying to make his soul feel
something that his body
only felt
when they connected...
lips and legs intertwined...
this momentary bliss
is all he felt...
and ...
she knew it.
The numbness in his heart
was reflected in his eyes...
He... would never love her.
She would always be....rejected
So truth...shown thru...anyway
despite the butterfly wing lies
that flew out of his mouth...
She knew...
that he would not be back.
and she knew...
that it was best...
Her flesh would miss
him for a season
But her soul...
was relieved to be free...
of his lying chains...
of bondage....
hers...filled with tears...
and his...filled with lies...
this time...
there would be no long
or sorrowful goodbyes
He was tired...
of trying to make his soul feel
something that his body
only felt
when they connected...
lips and legs intertwined...
this momentary bliss
is all he felt...

and she knew...

But her soul...
was relieved to be free...
of his lying chains...
of bondage....

We often hold on too long, when the physical is all that's left, or all there ever was.

Very nice Fire! I felt like I was having a reading done by you of a real life experience. This poem hits home for me and gives me the strength to know that moving on was the best thing that happened to me. Thank you for being such a great writer and telling the stories in a touching and relatable way!

Excellent poem fire! I felt this poem, it really hit me hard. I agree with Glynis, we hold on for so long when all that is really left is the physical. Sometimes we're so scared to realize it.

Butterfly wing of lies
that flew out of his mouth
No matter how a man hides his lies, he should lie to the woman he loves.
loved it
