Proud Child: a Ghetto Rose
Proud Child (a Ghetto Rose)
Proud child, proud child what make you
walk with you head held high?
You live in the ghetto, your momma’s a hoe
yet you think you’re better than I!
Proud child, Proud Child wipe that
stupid smile off your face!
Your hair is nappy, your clothes are
dirty but you act with such grace!
Listen to you Proud Child talking like you white
when you black! You ain’t no betta than us!
How dare you dream of livin on the otha
side of the track!
Proud Child, Proud Child my momma’s callin
I gotta go home and eat.
I don’t understand why you so happy; you eatin
On the streets!
Filth, Poverty, Degradation, not the life a
Proud Child chose.
But this Proud Child remained a proud child
Until she grew up a Ghetto Rose.
Proud child, proud child what make you
walk with you head held high?
You live in the ghetto, your momma’s a hoe
yet you think you’re better than I!
Proud child, Proud Child wipe that
stupid smile off your face!
Your hair is nappy, your clothes are
dirty but you act with such grace!
Listen to you Proud Child talking like you white
when you black! You ain’t no betta than us!
How dare you dream of livin on the otha
side of the track!
Proud Child, Proud Child my momma’s callin
I gotta go home and eat.
I don’t understand why you so happy; you eatin
On the streets!

Proud Child chose.
But this Proud Child remained a proud child
Until she grew up a Ghetto Rose.
