"Bayou Blues"

The bayou
i wonder what secrets
it holds?
A body of water
located on a poorly
declined shoreline.
water makes me seasick
and yet somehow
i feel fine?

Mushroom shaped trees
echo a balance between
woodland and strange plant-life
symmetrical in its simplicity
the bayou reflects its image
against the incoming tide.

Mystery's begin and end here
tourists seek and yet return
to the mainland in fear.
The discovery of alligators
and strange creatures
was to much to bear
a swamp thing moves
Silently
by the tree line
over there.

I was close and
yet so far
i would of taken the tour
if i wasn't so hung over
from the "Mardi Gras" festivities
and nightly activities
that bottle of whiskey
had indeed hit the spot
i would of boarded the boat
and over the side
lost the lot.

And on a passing steam boat
under a blood red moon
i gain a little insight
a little view
as a steel pedal guitarist
knocks back a bottle of jack Daniels
and sings Cajan bayou blues.

(Dedicated to the lovely
Faith Elizabeth Brigham
a fantastic poet
who dreams of a
Cajan Christmas)
