Slinger's Redemption
It’s Malay a brawl, all the way to the end
I been told by many, it should be hard to win
You duck sucker punches, your watching over-hand rights
Its constant baby mama drama, it’s called a slingers life
You’re fighting for a corner, got to get established on the block
You no trouble is coming, because you done stole somebody spot
You hear the talk on the streets, as the shots begin to ring out
It’s survival of the fittest, that’s what it’s all about
The process never changes, always facing prison or county jail
High priced attorneys, always getting you out on bail
You stand before the judge, with a bogus story to tell
You’ve been praying for heaven, but you know you’re facing Hell
So I stopped slinging poison, and started slinging words of what I’ve observed
It’s a really rough transition, almost always unheard
You can’t escape people’s judgment, that’s a straight up bet
People may forgive you, but they will never ever forget
I aint perfect in my new life, and have never claimed to be
I am what I am, but I aint what I used to be
Accusations and frustrations, I can hardly take any more
Your either down with the NEW ME or you can hit the door
I got out of the dope game, just in time it seems
I could no longer find peace, with those demons inside of me
I’m motivated by my thoughts, of how it all came to an end
Almost sold my soul for good, I’ve buried too many of my friends
I have a new life now; I’m even going back to school
I’ll take my streets smarts and use them as a learning tool
They will guide me and guard me; start a shaping of a new man
But I thank God most of all, for his “slingers redemption plan”

Believe it or not, i can relate. I am only 23 now but when i was 19 i was knee deep dealing x and that's about as stupid as it gets-being a caucasion 19 year old FEMALE in those situations and flipping a product that (under new state law) was punishable by 15 to life for attempted man-slaughter. unfortunately for me the money lead to more problems, worse "friends" and was a gateway to more drugs and into a lifestyle that nearly killed me. i never got caught; but it was by some strange happenstance that i didn't. because at 19 i wasn't very smart when it came to "laying low". i'm not a religious individual, but i can relate to finding something that brings you peace and fills that empty hole that the substance once did. and i know how hard it is to walk away from the things your body's chemical make up is telling you that you NEED and i know what it is to find redemption (although mine was within myself, for myself) and i am truly touched that you are able to turn those experiences into poetry for others to read-most people who have seen the kinds of things we've seen & been a part of, never see the clarity of creativity like this again. congrats on your recovery and on your ephiphany. and i hope you enjoy experiencing all of life's little wonders and not taking it for granted :) i will say this though: i do feel that because i made the mistakes i made and experienced living through a poisoned mind that i have a profound understanding & appreciation that most who have not made my mistakes would never grasp. everything happens for a reason...don't stop sharing your struggles with the world. they need to be educated :)

I'm glad that someone was able to relate to the game. It's a strugle to stay away at times but I find hope in the fact that I lay my head down at night and know I gave something back to the world that I was trying to poison. It's so ironic that I became addict.
