On the Loss of Memory
Seduced away
from the most exquisite idea
in the universe,
needing to be strapped
to the mast
so as not to lose track
of the subject
and yet to survive
being subjected
to the most
seductive
of all voices
Odysseus,
renders himself
open to the songful plea
only to pass the night of longing
to eventually return
to the subject of all subjects
more important than life itself,
this while in service to his muse
the Thoughtful Goddess,
Athena, who protects the inventive,
the afflicted, the interrupted.
From what have those of her flock
been dissuaded from attending to?
The home and foundational message,
the pure memory of the reason for being.
What is this singular point of focus?
I cannot say, for Athena is my Patron,
and her charge is my survival
until such time as memory returns.
Tucked away in the sickened heart
lies the answers to all spiritual quests,
and when once again memory restores
then all broad thoughts are righted.

Nice! I'm surprised this is the first poem about the Odyssey I've seen in the site. Can I be abit dense and ask what this 'subject of subjects' is?

Each person will name this same subject metaphorically from his or her own position...
Say it is, for example, supposedly God....the first commandment....or the Law, according to David...and in that law doth he meditate both day and night...
in the end, it is the real subject matter that comes to mind.....so then, ask yourself..what is the subject matter to which we all return over and over.....different names for the same subject.....now name it.....

okay then, deconstruct them....how do you know that you exist? It's a point of consciousness, right? Vices, things that provocate existence, only like things can interface, one state of mind or consciousness intervening another, thus two states of consciousness....their intersection is what enables them to belong to the same group.....what then allows all things to belong to the same group and therefore inhabits the group of subject of subjects......in a unified field the point of intersection is the defining quality. What quality does that for all members such that there are no non-members? Interesting?

Very, very interesting actually, but it's got my mind going places that aren't very relevant in this particular context. I think I need to start at maybe Confucius or Kant an work my way down to the present from there.... This has me thinking about all sorts of abstractness... Thinking about thinking if that makes any sense, assuming that these different states of consciousness are different people or entities then the defining quality must be the ability to think in itself, I can't think of anything else that could be relevant right now. Either that or if these different states of consciousness are all part of one entity then there must be some even larger consciousness inside of which all of those other states exist. I feel like I might have just created a new state of consciousness now, I've confused myself! In my defence it's 4:40am here

rt, is this in spite of, or because of the meds?
Lol, I'm kidding, I actually enjoy theory of knowledge. (I hope you're feeling better, by the way.)
I will venture a guess that the "subject of all subjects" is self-awareness/inner life force/thought, or something very near to all that.
I like how the poem has woven Odysseus and Athena into this idea.

Mirror mirror on the wall...
The source of all power and inspiration comes from what you see in the mirror.
Unless you 'forgot' to clean it young man!

No mirror,
no dust,
no one to clean nor to perceive.
Nothing to forget, QU.
